Moonfleet was built in the 1850s, originally as accommodation for the chief gunner stationed at the nearby Fort Redoubt. The cottage was completely rebuilt to modern standards in 2009 and is furnished and equipped with care to provide attractive and comfortable accommodation for two people. The accommodation is open-plan, but with partial walls which gives each room a feeling of separation. There is a fitted kitchen with an electric cooker and ceramic induction hob, microwave and refrigerator with freezer section. There is a pleasant sitting room and dining area with comfortable chairs and a flat screen television with Freeview and a DVD player. A modern wood burning stove provides a relaxing atmosphere to both bedroom and lounge.
The bedroom with a double bed, and hanging space has a door which opens into the garden. There is a cloakroom with a W.C and large basin, plus a separate wet room (narrowing to 2ft wide) with a power shower providing constant hot water. The wood burner provides the main heating in the cottage in combination with electric radiators. Logs are provided. Heating and electricity are without extra charge. (Private use of washing machine/freezer in the nearby Fort Redoubt which is being converted into private accommodation by the owners of Moonfleet).
Moonfleet is surrounded by a private open plan garden of lawns which extend to the nearby cliff edge. Visitors are therefore asked to take the utmost care when in the garden. Guests can unload luggage in an area just above the garden and park a car in the Fort courtyard which is under a minute's walk away. General stores are within a ten-minute stroll, and a public house, tea room, cafe, and regular bus service are within a five minutes walk. A greater choice of shops are available in the nearby town of Freshwater which is a five-minute drive.
Dogs fees are charged per dog at £20.00 for up to 7 nights, £40.00 for up to 14 nights and an additional £20.00 for every week or part week thereafter.
