  • A comfortable and attractive cottage set in picturesque farmland
  • Ideally positioned for visiting the popular seaside resorts of Sandown and Shanklin
  • Perfect for enjoying stunning country walks with wildlife and a nature trail
Property code: IC080

Manor Stable is situated on a farm in beautiful South Wight countryside. It is a marvellous walking area with footpaths that can be followed directly from the cottage in most directions. There are scenic walks along the course of the river Yar to the picturesque village of Godshill, and to the nearby village of Arreton which has two public houses for home cooked meals. More extensive walks lead to the downs and visitors can join the renowned Stenbury and Worsley Trails. There is also direct access across one of the farm fields to an extensive cycle route which provides a flat and easy route to interlink Sandown, Godshill, Newport and Cowes. The sandy beaches of Sandown, Shanklin and Ventnor are within a 15-minute drive, as is the market town of Newport with its medieval castle of Carisbrooke. Visitors are free to stroll across the fields of the farm and around the lovely lake in the grounds. Please note that the garden of the Manor House is private.

There is an open grassland area near the lakes with panoramic views where barbecues and picnics can be enjoyed. There is also a nature trail on the farm so that visitors can enjoy the plethora of wild life; this includes herons, ducks and geese on the lakes; swallows and kestrels often nest in the barns; pheasants, foxes and badgers, plus rabbits which abound. A small herd of cows is kept on the farm and there is an area for children with a small rare-breed bagot goat that will eat from the hand and rescued hens which are now free-range. From the cottage there is direct access across the fields to the cycle track which links Sandown to Newport and Cowes. Arrangements can be made for the storage of bikes.

Manor Stable is a charming cottage built of Island chalk and brick, and adjoins what was originally the old farm granary. The cottage has been converted with great care from an ancient barn and where possible, original features have been retained. It provides comfortable accommodation for four people in two bedrooms, and is centrally heated. The front door opens into a large open-plan room with a vaulted ceiling and large ancient beams. There is a sumptuous sofa and chairs, and television with Freeview and a DVD player, plus a pleasant dining area and a well-equipped fitted kitchen with a gas cooker and gas hob, microwave, dishwasher, fridge, freezer, washing machine and tumble dryer.

The cottage has two bedrooms; one twin room and one double room with an en-suite bathroom, with a bath, overhead shower, basin and WC. There is also a family bathroom with a bath, hand shower, basin and WC. Heating and electricity are provided at no extra charge. A wooden cot and high chair can be made available on request.

There is an enclosed patio style garden with garden furniture so that meals can be enjoyed in the sunshine. There is direct access to a large grass area which is ideal for playing games. A mown path also leads to the beautiful lakes on the farm. Two cars can be parked beside the cottage. A regular bus service is within a 15 minutes walk, while two public houses, a farm food shop and arts and crafts barns are within an attractive 30 minutes walk. Access to the farm is along a gravel lane.

We loved staying here. The location is central so all the attractions of the Isle are only a short drive away. The property is a lovely open plan living area with a twin bedroom (which our children loved) and a master bedroom. With en suite. The master (double) was a good size with wardrobe and decent size draws and also a chair. There was good ranRead morege of equipment and it felt comfortable. The owners were very friendly and helpful which made the stay even more enjoyable - would recommend! Hide

A really comfortable place to stay, in the middle of the countryside. Peaceful, and the added pleasure of seeing the red squirrels, and other wildlife. A good base to travel to any tourist attraction on the Island.
