This picturesque thatched cottage is attractively situated in peaceful surroundings, overlooking Pound Green on the outskirts of Freshwater. It is within a 20-minute walk of Freshwater Bay and Totland Bay. The sandy cove of Colwell is also nearby. The centre of Freshwater is five minutes walk away. Here there are a small number of shops, a public house for meals and a leisure club with indoor swimming pool. Another great pub/restaurant, The Red Lion is just one mile away. The cafe of the Farringford Hotel, once the island home of Tennyson, is within five-minutes walk and there are several fine restaurants in the nearby coastal town of Yarmouth, renowned for its sailing. This is a wonderful walking area with footpaths leading to Tennyson Down, the coastal path and The Needles - the most westerly point of the Island.
Little Halt is a detached Grade II listed cottage dating back to the 1700s. It has been renovated and equipped to a high standard with great care being taken to retain the charm and original features of the cottage. The windows and pretty French doors leading into the garden are particularly attractive. It is furnished in a traditional country house style and is centrally heated. It has five bedrooms and provides very comfortable accommodation for ten people. The cottage has a light and spacious sitting room with a flame effect electric stove and French doors opening onto a patio. This room is furnished with sofas and chairs, a television with Freeview and DVD player. There is a second smaller sitting room furnished with sofas and an area off this room has an additional sofa and second television with DVD and video player, and is a great place for children to relax and play.
There is an open plan dining area with French doors leading into the garden. The kitchen is well equipped with fitted units, an electric oven, gas hob, microwave and dishwasher. Two fridge freezers, a washing machine and tumble dryer are also provided. The bedrooms are all upstairs and can be accessed by two staircases. There are three double bedrooms; one with a small en-suite shower room with W.C, and one with windows overlooking both the front and rear garden. There is also a twin bedroom and a spacious triple bedroom with three single beds. The cottage has one staircase which leads up to a double and twin room. The second staircase leads up to two double and one triple bedroom. On this side of the cottage there is the en-suite shower room and bathroom with bath, overhead shower and W.C. A connecting door between the triple bedroom and one of the double rooms can be unlocked to provide easy access between all the upstairs rooms.
There is an additional bathroom on the ground floor with a bath, overhead shower and W.C. A folding bed can be provided for children to sleep in with parents, if within maximum cottage numbers. A travel cot and high chair is available. Heating and electricity are at no extra charge. Please be aware that the open fires cannot be used. Telephone and WiFi internet connection is provided.
Little Halt has beautiful gardens. At the front of the cottage there is a lawned garden with a white wicker fence and some ancient trees which give the cottage a picture-box appearance. At the rear of the cottage is a spacious and secluded fenced garden with a patio area and garden furniture so that meals can be enjoyed in the sunshine. (Due to the risk of fire, barbecues are not permitted). There is the protection of a large umbrella for use during hot weather. A small number of steps lead up to a large lawn with areas of shrubs. Here games can be played and visitors can relax. To the side of Little Halt is a drive which leads to the rear of the property where there is parking for four cars. A gate leads from this area directly into the rear garden. There is a bus service and shop within five minutes walk.
Dogs are charged at £20 each per full or part week.
