Perfect for a couple wanting to explore the wonderful coast and beautiful countryside, this lovely and cosy rural stone cottage lies in a tranquil hamlet in the heart of the picturesque Purbeck Hills.

This traditional stone cottage stands in the small hamlet of Acton, almost surrounded by National Trust land amidst the rolling Purbeck Hills. It is a nature lovers dream with a rich variety of birds, butterflies and wildflowers. This is a wonderful walking and cycling area with paths and bridleways directly from the door. The sea at Dancing Ledge is a 15 to 20 minute walk away, as are the villages of Langton Matravers and Worth Matravers. Nearby Priests Way - an ancient pathway used by priests travelling between Worth Matravers and Swanage also provides a fairly direct path for walkers and cyclists. The nearby coastal path offers the most breath-taking views and forms part of the South West Coast Path. The sandy beach of Swanage is within a five-minute drive and here, swimming, paddling, boating, diving and fishing can be enjoyed. Swanage Steam Railway links the town with the historic village of Corfe Castle.

Highland Cottage provides an idyllic retreat away from busy roads. It is a cosy quarryman's cottage which stands at the end of a small terrace, and enjoys spectacular views from the upper floor across fields towards the coast. Original features have been retained. It has been furnished and equipped with care to provide comfortable accommodation for two people. On the ground floor there is an open-plan living area with original beams and a flagstone floor, with a sofa, flat screen television with Freeview and DVD player, and wood burning stove; a small dining area with a granite topped table by a window; a fitted kitchen equipped with an oak worktop, a butler sink, an electric cooker, two ring hob, microwave and refrigerator with ice box.

Steep, open tread stairs with a rope bannister wind up to the upper floor where there is a double bedroom with windows on both sides of the room and views across fields towards the coast; a well-equipped shower room with a built in shower, basin and W.C. The cottage is warmed with a combination of storage heaters, electric heaters and the wood burning stove. WiFi internet can be made available. Please be aware that the steep stairs in the cottage are unsuitable for anyone with agility issues.

At the front of the Highland Cottage there is a walled and paved courtyard with a gated entrance. This is an attractive place to relax and garden furniture is provided so that meals can be enjoyed in the sunshine. Visitors can stop on the unmade track beside the cottage to unpack their car, and a parking space is available in the quiet lane within a short walk. Low slung vehicles need to take extra care on this path. A regular bus service is within a five-minute walk, offering direct access to Swanage, Corfe Castle, Wareham and Poole - making this an ideal cottage for visitors wishing to leave their car at home. A public house and village shop are available in Langton Matravers, and in Worth Matravers there is The Square and Compass, renowned for its local beers and ciders, plus coastal views.

Dogs are charged at £20 each per full or part week.

We loved the location of this cottage, in particular the proximity to wonderful early morning walks with the dog. It is superbly equipped, especially in the kitchen. A bonus were the friendly neighbours met on dog walks.

Although agile the stairs were awful especially looking down them to descend, had to go down backwards which was very awkward. Parking was good for me but if someone else is using the space then it is quite a walk down the lane to find a space.

Gorgeous cottage, perfect for those who love walking on their holidays. We left our car most days and walked to the coast and surrounding areas of interest. The property is small but perfect if you spend most of your days out and about. This really is a perfect location to rest and recharge.

Had an amazing time in this beautiful cottage. It is walking distance to Dancing Ledge, a beautiful swimming spot, as well as an hour and a half walk to Swanage, with great bus links back to the cottage! The cottage itself is absolutely beautiful, couldnt have asked for a better setting for a relaxing week away.

A very cosy cottage that is well equipped with an enclosed paved garden in the hamlet of Acton. It is close to walks such as the Priest's Way and a short drive to Swanage and then onto Studland Bay. The Scott's Arms in Kingston serves very good food with views of Corfe Castle and beyond plus it is dog friendly.
