Flagstones is a traditional detached Isle of Purbeck stone house - beautifully situated in a conservation area; in the centre of the village, but at the same time it is a very secluded property with open views across the valley to the downs. The village shop, public house and beautiful church are within a few minutes walk. This is a wonderful walking and cycling area with paths close to the house leading to the dramatic Jurassic coast at Dancing Ledge, Seacombe and Winspit, and onto the coastal path to Weymouth and beyond. Visitors can also follow the nearby Priests Way - a bridleway to the coastal village of Worth Matravers with the renowned Square and Compass public house, or to the centre of the nearby small resort of Swanage with its lovely sandy beach, fishing trips, diving centre, varied restaurants, wine bars and public houses. The Swanage Steam railway connects the town to the picturesque and historic village of Corfe Castle. The miles of sandy beaches of Studland are also within a short drive.
Flagstones has served as a much loved family home for decades and the owners now live close by, so are able to provide invaluable tips for making the most of one's time on the Isle of Purbeck. It has particularly attractive original windows - a feature of some of the properties in this village. The house has been furnished and equipped with great sensitively to provide a lovely relaxed traditional English Country House feel. One of the owners is a well known artist and her beautiful paintings adorn the walls in many of the rooms.
On the ground floor there is a large open plan kitchen equipped with wooden fitted units, a double Belfast sink, a LaCanche range cooker with two ovens, one electric and one gas, refrigerator, dishwasher and a traditional dresser; a delightful dining area; a separate utility room with an additional sink, a microwave, washing machine and freezer; a charming sitting room with comfortable sofas and chairs, French doors opening into the garden, a television with Freeview and DVD player, plus an open fire for use during the colder months; a snug with French doors opening on to the large and pretty courtyard, providing a quiet place to relax or for children to play, with a second television and two comfortable chairs; a ground floor cloakroom with WC and basin.
Stairs lead up to three bedrooms; a master bedroom with a double bed and with French doors opening onto a Juliette balcony from where there are wonderful views across the garden and valley, to the downs in the distance. This bedroom has an en-suite shower room with a built in shower, basin and WC. There is a second double bedroom with a king-size bed and bay window with views through the trees of the church tower. The third bedroom is also a lovely light room with two windows and twin beds (2 ft 6 ins). There is a traditional bathroom with a Victorian style bath on legs, hand shower, an original lavatory and a modern basin set in wood. Central heating and electricity are provided without extra charge. WiFi internet is available plus a telephone for incoming calls.
Flagstones has a pretty garden with a large lawn at the rear and a beautiful stone courtyard at the side of the house with garden furniture and colourful borders in the spring and summer. The garden is fully walled and fenced. A large stone table and chairs are positioned in the courtyard for a sunny lunch outside, and comfortable outdoor chairs to catch the evening sun. There is parking for two cars in a covered open garage to the side of the courtyard and a further two cars can be parked at the entrance to the courtyard. An hourly bus service links the village with Swanage, Corfe Castle, Wareham and Poole.
