Property code: IC047

Charming Victorian property offering bright and stylish accommodation for six, enjoying a fantastic location just a short walk from the seafront and beach in the resort of Ventnor.

This stylish town house stands in a prime location, close to the centre of the Victorian seaside resort of Ventnor and is within a five minute walk of the golden beach where swimming, paddling and boating can be enjoyed. Ventnor has a variety of boutique style shops with a variety of restaurants and wine bars. There are also coffee shops and specialists in local produce. On the seafront, fresh fish including lobster and crab can be purchased. There are wonderful walks along the coastal path from here to the hamlet of Steephill Cove and Ventnor Botanical Garden. Eastwards, the path extends through Bonchurch and follows a rural route to the larger seaside resort of Shanklin.

Etchings is an elegant Victorian house dating back to 1890 which extends over three floors. The house has been furnished and equipped with the greatest care to provide charming accommodation of a high standard. Two impressive palm trees stand beside the front door and three external steps provide access to the middle level of the house. Here there are two separate sitting areas in which to relax with feature fireplaces - one with an oriental feel and the second with a sofa, comfortable seats and smart television. Two steps up from the oriental sitting room are the twin bedroom and a cloakroom with a W.C and basin.

Fairly narrow stairs with a rope handrail lead down to a charming dining room; an under stairs closet providing useful storage for coats, boots and shoes; a spacious fitted kitchen equipped with an electric cooker and gas hob with five burners, microwave, fridge/freezer, dishwasher and striking Javanese dresser; a separate utility room with washer dryer and second sink.

On the upper floors of the house there are a further two bedrooms - a master bedroom with a king-size bed, walk in wardrobe and French doors which open onto a terrace with access to upper levels of the garden; a second double bedroom, also with king size bed; a spacious bathroom with a Victorian style bath, hand shower, basin and W.C, plus a separate fully tiled wet room. A travel cot and high chair can also be made available by agreement. WiFi internet, central heating and electricity, bed linen and towels are provided without extra charge.

Etchings has a walled courtyard with seating which opens up two steps from the kitchen. There is a terrace accessed from the master bedroom, which leads to the upper reaches of the property where a small private rock garden offers views across the town to the sea. Pebbled with a raised decking area and with a variety of shrubs and trees, deck chairs are available to enjoy the sun. (Children do need to be closely supervised in the garden as there are different high levels). Driveway parking for a medium sized car is available in front of the house, although please note that access is narrow. There is a public car park at the other end of Marlborough Road, a one minute walk from Etchings. Tourist Parking Permits can be purchased via PaybyPhone for 2,3,4,7 or 14 days, offering excellent value as they also cover the majority of public car parks across the whole island. Regular bus service, public house restaurants and cafes, post office and two supermarkets are all within a two/three minutes walk.

Dogs are charged at £20 each per full or part week.

Please note there is a refundable £150 security deposit for this property payable closer to the start of your holiday.

We had a lovely time staying here. Rooms are generous size. Beds are really comfy . Shower is good size. We did manage to get 2 cars on the drive but you do have to approach it directly otherwise you get wheel spin, (which is quite common according to next door neighbour) Ideally situated with just a 5 min walk to high street. Stairs to kitchen areRead more narrow and steep so not suitable for everyone. The only disappointment was that the courtyard and roof terrace need some TLC . Hide

Etchings cottage is in a great location, near to all amenities in Ventnor, we managed to fit two cars on the driveway so that was great , its very well equipped with a fabulous kitchen and nice terrace out side , a real sun trap in the one upstairs. Etchings Cottage is a lovely quirky place to stay and we really enjoyed our little holiday. Spacious and artistically decorated with a beautiful and well appointed kitchen. The description is accurate, it does take a while to get used to the stairs but the general comfort and space made up for the slight inconvenience.

Etchings Cottage is in a perfect location for Ventnor and within walking distance for the beach. The cottage is big and spacious but there are steep stairs in kitchen which is in the basement so not ideal for young children however there are stair gates which can be used for safety.

We were impressed from the start with the property, superb facilities and well decorated throughout, even provide extras like cocktail table, very handy for our martini's. Would note that it has steep stairs throughout the house, and a courtyard downstairs and rooftop terrace.

The garden description on your website is highly misleading as it claims to have 'several meandering levels with numerous places to relax', whereas the bottom level is a concrete courtyard almost devoid of light and the balcony outside the master bedroom is not a garden. So the only garden is the terrace which is effectively at an outside fourth flRead moreoor level above the roof which makes it very unconducive for dining and unsafe for play.
