Grade II listed thatched cottage offering attractive, characterful accommodation for six guests located in the picturesque village of Calbourne on the Isle of Wight, within walking distance of the village pub.

This charming thatched cottage stands in a small lane in the village of Calbourne, only a one minute walk from the church and picturesque Winkle Street - renowned for being one of the prettiest spots on the Isle of Wight with its lovely stone cottages overlooking a glittering stream, with its wild flowers and clear water. This is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and a lovely walking area with nearby footpaths leading to Brighstone Forest and Westover Down, which links with The Tennyson Trail - from Carisbrooke to The Needles. There are quiet bays within a ten minute drive at Brighstone Brook and Colwell on the south west coast of the island. Also at a similar distance is Newtown Estuary - a National Nature Reserve which is home to countless wildfowl and rare wading birds. This is a particularly peaceful area for walking and bird watching. The ancient castle of Carisbrooke and the market town of Newport are only a seven minute drive away and a public house is within five minutes walk.

Dove Cottage is a detached stone-walled cottage dating back to 1780 and is Grade II listed. It is one of three properties on elevated ground adjoining open countryside and overlooking Westover Park. The cottage has been renovated with care to retain the pretty windows, beams, traditional doors and original inglenook fireplaces. It has been furnished and equipped with care to provide attractive accommodation for six people.

On the ground floor there is an entrance room with space for coats and boots, plus a desk with books and maps for planning the day; a lovely dining room with a window overlooking the front garden; a sitting room with sofas, an armchair, Inglenook fireplace, window seat and television with Freesat and DVD player; a country-style kitchen equipped with an electric cooker and hob, microwave, dishwasher, refrigerator, freezer and washing machine; a bathroom with a bath, overhead shower, basin and W.C.

Upstairs there are two double bedrooms and a bunk bedroom for children with views across the fields. A travel cot and high chair can be provided, as well as a single futon bed to enable two children to sleep separately in one of the double bedrooms. Central heating and electricity are at no extra charge. We regret that the open fires and wood burner cannot be used. Visitors are also asked not to have barbecues because of the fire risk with the thatched roof.

Dove Cottage has a small enclosed garden at the front of the cottage and a large garden at the rear with a lawn which slopes gently upwards. There is also a patio with garden furniture so that meals can be enjoyed in the sunshine. The garden is securely fenced and hedged. There is space in the lane to park one/two cars near the side entrance gate. There is a regular bus service within five minutes to Newport and Freshwater with interlinking services to most parts of the Isle of Wight. Nearby places to visit include Mottistone Manor Gardens, Calbourne Water Mill, Yarmouth Castle, Chessell Pottery, Blackgang Chine Adventure Park, and West Wight Alpacas.

Dove Cottage is a gorgeous cottage just near Winkle Street. It is very well equipped, warm and comfortable. It is well located in the centre of the Island and walking distance to a good pub. It has a very useful boot room for muddy boots and wet coats!
