Escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life with this charming barn conversion set in an idyllic rural location just a short stroll from the riverside quay of the historic Saxon walled town of Wareham.

Set between the idyllic villages of Stoborough and Stoborough Green (both within 0.5 miles), this little gem gleams in South Dorset’s treasure chest. Sandwiched between the Rivers Frome and Piddle, the picturesque market town of Wareham is just a mile to the north – explore the circular trails of the Two Rivers Walk, through Purbeck’s wonderful wetlands. Encounter rare wildlife at Stoborough Heath, Hartland Moor, RSPB Arne and Holton Heath Nature Reserves (all within 5 miles), and discover the quaint wonders of Corfe Castle (3.5 miles), including a model village and a steam train to Swanage (9 miles).

This beautiful barn conversion has been lavished with love and care, to maximise light, air, space and old rural charm. The high-ceilinged and flagstone-floored lounge is almost baronial; opening the French doors lets the fresh green outside in. Wake in the bright, ground-floor double bedroom with a bathroom and step out into the garden with steaming coffee and croissants; after thrilling days of sea and sand, steam trains, cruises and rare creatures, gather round the glowing wood burner to reminisce and plan your next excursion. Kids will love gazing down from the landing gallery, and their secret bedroom snuggled in the eaves of the cottage. Outside, there’s a front lawn bordered by flowerbeds, shrubs and trees; to the rear, there’s a long, enclosed lawn, a gravel seating area, superb summer house and separate pond.

More wild wonders await at Studland and Godlingston Heath Nature Reserve (9 miles). Lulworth Cove (9 miles) is one of Britain’s best locations for coasteering, rock pooling, kayaking and paddleboarding. Catch the ferry from Studland or Poole (both 11 miles) to beautiful Brownsea Island, with its dramatic views across to the Purbeck Hills; its woods, heaths and lagoons are havens for red squirrels, kingfishers and terns. These experiences and so many more await in sublime South Dorset.
