The Paper Barn occupies an idyllic position on a 12-acre farm where horses are kept. The farm is surrounded by mesmerising open countryside. It is a delightful walking area and visitors can follow footpaths over the Downs from close to the cottage. The Paper Barn adjoins Squire Thatchers Barn and sits at the edge of a grassy courtyard which is often adorned by ducks. On the other sides of the courtyard, are the 18th century farmhouse, threshing barn and six stables where horses are kept. The rural village of Newchurch has a great public house The Pointer Inn for meals. The lovely beaches of Sandown, Shanklin and Ventnor can be found within a 10-20 minute drive. The market town of Newport is within a 15 minute drive. A rural bus service is within a quarter of a mile.

The cottage has been sensitively converted from an 18th century Grade II Listed stone barn. It has been furnished and equipped with care and has attractive open views at the rear across fields to the Downs. The accommodation is all on the ground floor and follows an open-plan design which gives the feeling of space. There is a light and pleasant sitting room with comfortable sofas, television, DVD and a hi-fi system. The floor in this area is furnished with rugs over the original flagstones. There is a welcoming dining area and newly fitted kitchen with electric cooker and hob, microwave, dishwasher, fridge freezer and washer/dryer.

The cottage has two bedrooms - one double, and one twin room, plus a bathroom with a bath and overhead shower. A travel cot and highchair can be provided. Electric heaters keep the cottage warm in colder weather. Heating and electricity are provided free of charge. The cottage has a wireless internet (WiFi).

There is a lovely terrace at the rear of Paper Barn with open views across the lawn and fields towards the downs. Garden furniture is provided. A barbecue is available on request in advance, free of charge. The lawned garden has a small pear tree and is a relaxing place to unwind. Parking spaces for two cars are adjacent to the garden. Access to the cottage is along a private lane, mainly tarmac with a central concreted section which is a little bumpy in place. Access to the car park is via a short section of unmade bumpy track. Alternative parking close by with access via the courtyard is available on request from the owner.

Well equipped, lots of little touches which made our stay a pleasure, the place is beautiful inside and the garden was perfect for my dog. The weather was rather rainy and windy but it didn't matter so much with such a nice place to come back to at the end of the day.

Very homely little converted barn in quiet picturesque setting. Very good hosts, would definitely recommend to anyone wanting a quiet retreat. The track down to the farm is a little bumpy but taken at a reasonable speed is no issue. Although lower cars my struggle accessing the carpark at the rear of the property. Good place to stay for exploring the Island, lovely back garden that is secure if you have a dog , with super views to the downs to the North. Excellent local pub which is 15 mins walk away. Property has all you need with a well furnished kitchen living room although the bathroom and decor was looking a little tired.
