Property code: IC091

Mead Cottage is idyllically situated on a 12 acre farm, on the edge of the small rural hamlet of Alverstone in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. This is a wonderful position for outdoor pursuits, walking, cycling, fishing and golf. In the village there are water meadows and fishing ponds, with hides for bird and red squirrel watching. There are a plethora of footpaths leading up on to the downs and towards the coast. Sandown is less than three miles away with sandy beaches and lively entertainment, plus Sandown Golf Course is within easy reach. The long stretch of sand at Yaverland beach is also only a ten-minute drive away. The village of Newchurch is within a 25-minute walk along footpaths and here, there is a great public house for meals. One of the well known Island cycle routes also runs through Alverstone, so there is easy access to a cycling network which interlinks various parts of the Island.

The cottage is one of a pair of cottages which have recently been converted from a barn. The farm is home to horses and a number of free range chickens. It has a large pond that attracts ducks, moorhens and the occasional heron. The cottage has been renovated to the highest standards, furnished and equipped with great care to provide comfortable accommodation for four people in two bedrooms. The cottage has under floor heating beneath an attractive tiled floor with panel heaters upstairs, and the hot water is solar heated. There is a well-equipped fitted kitchen with an electric oven and hob, microwave, dishwasher and refrigerator with freezer section. A washing machine and tumble dryer are also provided in the cottage and there is access to a freezer in an outbuilding beside the cottages. There is a spacious, open-plan sitting room which extends across the width of the cottage and is a bright room with patio doors opening into a pretty courtyard garden. There is a pleasant dining area beside the window, and a wood burning stove provides a central focus for the room in colder weather. It is furnished with a sumptuous three seater sofa and arm chair, plus a Smart TV.  A wet room is also on the ground floor with a shower, basin and WC.

Upstairs there are two attractive bedrooms; one spacious double room with views across fields, and a compact twin bedroom. There is a bathroom with a bath, basin and WC. A travel cot and high chair is available. Heating and domestic electricity are included without extra charge. Free WiFi broadband Internet is available.

The cottage has a private courtyard-style garden which is fenced and gated, from which there is a stunning view over paddocks to the pretty pond. Garden furniture and a barbecue are provided so that meals can be enjoyed outside. Parking is at the rear of the cottage and there is space to store bicycles. The Alverstone Marshes (Triple SSI - Site of Scientific Interest) with abundant wildlife adjoins the farm and it is possible to see a rich variety of wildlife. Nearby places to visit include Sandown Zoo, The Donkey Sanctuary, Carisbrooke Castle and Havenstreet Steam Railway.

An amazing stay here, lovely little farm that the children enjoyed as they could feed the chickens and get up close to the horses. Very clean, super hosts who provided literally everything you would need including fresh eggs, milk and lemon cake on arrival! Great location close to everything we needed. Highly recommend

Really lovely cottage with everything you may need for your stay in a beautiful setting. The owners were friendly and we appreciated the gift of eggs, milk and homemade cake. Only 10 minute drive to most places. We explored and took lots of long walks at the nearby beaches. Food was great and everywhere was accommodating for the dogs.

The cottage is very well designed and decorated. The sofa is very comfortable and there is plenty of room at the dining table. The owners are very friendly and chatty. The location is very good, especially if you are a walker or cyclist as there is a bridle way just down the road. A superb cottage for a small family visiting the Isle of Wight. Beautiful local area of Alverstone and surrounds, easy access to Island. Quiet, peaceful and relaxing (apart from my own kids). The farm is gorgeous with an array of animals. Car (or bikes) required of course. Perfect for us as we have family near by! Thanks again, we will be back.

A cosy and well equipped cottage in a beautiful rural location. Odette was a really kind host and left us delicious homemade lemon cake! The cottage was perfect for a short break. Remember to take a hairdryer and towels but otherwise the cottage had absolutely everything we needed. Was so tranquil - just what we wanted thank you!

Not suitable for tall people, my husband is 6,2 and he couldnt use the shower properly in the wet room as it was too low and didnt move. Kept hitting his head on the ceiling in the main bedroom and the bed was too small, needs a king size. Could do with a handheld shower to be able clean the dogs after muddy walks. Great location on the Isle of Wight. Lots of good local walks and only a short journey to very good dog friendly beaches at Yaverland and Bembridge. Cottage is in a quite farm location with helpful owners and a welcoming lemon drizzle cake to die for. Cottage not luxurious or big, but cleverly thought out and satisfactorily equipped for four peopleRead more and a dog. Wonderful hosts and the best equipped cottage that I have ever been too. Wasn't a fan of the wet room shower, would have preferred a detachable shower hose either in wet room or main bathroom, but that is a minor point and was fine for a week's stay. Daughter loved seeing the dogs, chickens and horses every day. Would definitely recommend Mead CottRead moreage. Hide

Extremely well designed and equipped cosy cottage in a beautiful rural location - the owner had thought of every kitchen utensil including an electric whisk which is a rare find in a holiday rental. We enjoyed the cake and fresh eggs. The hosts were chatty, helpful and informative. The second bedroom was perhaps a squeeze for two teenagers, and theRead more double bed in the main bedroom was not comfortable (we were squashed into the middle like a hammock). Overall we enjoyed our stay. Hide

Cottage was comfortable enough and well equipped. Route in described by owner should be followed as entry via the lanes from the north was pretty awful. Location close to nature reserve and with farm animals around was good for children particularly. Owner was friendly and helpful. Access to the whole island was fine.
