This charming cottage enjoys stunning views across lakes to the downs beyond. It is an individual property on a 40 acre farm which is home to horses and sheep. It stands on the edge of one of the Isle of Wight's Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty. There is a pond with an abundance of wildlife including ducks, herons and swans, plus two large trout lakes where arrangements can be made to fish. The lakes abound with a variety of birds making them a perfect location for keen bird watchers and from the cottage, visitors can watch Red Squirrels feeding. This is also a superb cycling and walking area with direct access to a network of cycle paths, plus easy access to the nearby Stenbury Trail which extends from Cowes to Ventnor, and also the Tennyson Trail from Carisbrooke to the Needles on the western tip of the island.
The central location of Marvel Cottage makes it an ideal base for touring the Isle of Wight. The sandy beaches of Sandown, Shanklin and Ventnor are within a 15-minute drive, as are more secluded bays on the west side of the island. The spectacular medieval castle of Carisbrooke is just a 15-minute walk away along picturesque country lanes and Osborne House, the island home of Queen Victoria, is within a 15-minute drive. The nearby market town of Newport has a variety of shops, restaurants and wine bars.
Marvel Cottage has been skilfully converted from an ancient barn and provides attractive accommodation of a high standard in peaceful surroundings, with stunning rural views from all of the main rooms. The cottage is centrally heated and double glazed. Double doors open into a light and airy open plan area with a charming sitting room furnished with a large arm chair and two comfortable sofas, flat screen television with Freeview and DVD player, and music system; a dining area with a circular table; a well-equipped fitted kitchen with an electric cooker and hob, microwave, refrigerator with ice box and washer dryer. Access to a freezer is also provided.
Stairs lead up to two bedrooms - a double room and a second bedroom with a zip and link bed which will be made up as a twin or into a super-king double if requested at the time of booking. There is also a tiled bathroom with a built in Myra shower, basin and WC. A baby bath and stair gate are provided, and a travel cot and high chair can also be made available. Central heating and electricity are without extra charge. There is free, unlimited WiFi internet.
French doors open on to a terrace with stunning, open views. Garden furniture and a barbecue are provided so that meals can be enjoyed in the sunshine. The garden in front of the cottage has now been enclosed with attractive picket fencing.. Two cars can be parked beside the cottage or alternatively just outside the garden area. Children do need to be closely supervised in the grounds due to the pond and lakes. Visitors are welcome to roam across the beautiful farmland and enjoy picnics by the Trout lakes. Arrangements can be made to enjoy fly fishing on the lakes - tuition and tackle hire are available. One of the proprietors is a professional palaeontologist and is happy to identify your finds of fossils and/or take you on guided fossil hunting trips. Storage is available for bicycles and dinghies by arrangement. Supermarkets, public houses, restaurants and a regular bus service are within an easy 20-minute walk. The famous Isle of Wight Music Festival is only a five-minute taxi ride away or a 35-minute walk, mostly along the cycle track.
