Farmland property occupying a converted stable block, ideal for a couple, situated in a quiet rural location on the Isle of Wight, surrounded by fields and lush countryside.
Fodder Stable is situated on a farm in beautiful East Wight countryside with no passing traffic. From the cottage there are views across the fields to the downs of Ventnor in the distance. The sandy beaches of Sandown, Shanklin and Ventnor are all within a 15-minute drive. The cottage is centrally situated and most parts of the Island are no more than a 20-minute drive away. It is in a wonderful walking area with footpaths leading along the course of the River Yar and to the nearby picturesque village of Godshill. Visitors are free to stroll across the fields of the farm and around the lovely lake in the grounds of the Manor House. Please note that the garden of the Manor House is private.
There is an open grassland area near the lakes with open views where barbecues can be enjoyed. There is also a nature trail on the farm so that visitors can enjoy the plethora of wild life; this includes herons, ducks and geese on the lakes; swallows and kestrels often nest in the barns; pheasants, foxes and badgers, plus rabbits which abound. A small herd of cows is kept on the farm and there is a small rare-breed bagot goat that will eat from the hand, along with rescued hens which are now free-range. From the property there is direct access across the fields to the cycle track which links Sandown to Newport and Cowes. Arrangements can be made for the storage of bikes. It is suggested that you bring your walking boots and bicycles for your own pleasure.
Fodder Stable offers spacious accommodation for two people. It is completely self-contained and comprises the entire ground floor of a characterful old building, the foundations of which date back to the 1700s. A fire in 1889 resulted in much of it being rebuilt and in 2007, the whole building was renovated with the greatest care. Wherever possible, original features have been retained. The cottage is centrally heated and has been furnished in a traditional style. The accommodation is largely open-plan and there are attractive oak floors with rugs.
There is a sitting room furnished with sumptuous sofas, a television with DVD player, and French doors which open into the sunny courtyard garden. There is a pleasant dining area and a modern, fitted kitchen equipped with an electric cooker, ceramic hob, microwave, dishwasher, washing machine, tumble dryer and fridge freezer. A door leads from the sitting room into a double bedroom with a large en-suite bathroom equipped with a bath, built in shower, basin and W.C. Heating and electricity is at no extra charge. WIFI internet is included. A wooden cot and high chair are available on request.
At the rear of the cottage there is a private, fenced courtyard garden with a table, chairs and sun shade. A car can be parked just outside the front of the cottage. Access to the cottage is along a gravel lane. Arreton is a village within a pleasant 30 minutes stroll of the cottage where there are two public houses, an arts and crafts centre and a farm shop selling local produce. There is a regular bus service within 15 minutes walk.
