This traditional stone cottage is situated in the small rural hamlet of Bowcombe within the Bowcombe Valley - designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Bowcombe lies between the pretty village of Shorwell and Carisbrooke with its medieval castle. Shorwell and Carisbrooke are both within a five-minute drive and have public houses which are good for meals. The cottage offers easy access to the small bays and coves on the south west side of the Isle of Wight. Brighstone beach is within a ten-minute drive and the larger sandy beaches of Ventnor and Shanklin are within a 20-minute drive. The Bowcombe Valley is a lovely walking area. Footpaths and bridleways can be followed from very close to the cottage to Carisbrooke, Gatcombe, Brighstone and Shorwell and there is easy access to the Tennyson Trail and Shepherds Trail. The nearby bridleways are also ideally suited for off-road mountain biking. A 20-minute walk across nearby downs leads to a good public house for meals.
This spacious semi-detached cottage has been equipped to a high standard and has four bedrooms. Upstairs there is a well equipped modern bathroom with a bath, separate built in shower and W.C, plus two pretty double bedrooms. On the ground floor there is a single bedroom and a twin bedroom, plus a shower room with W.C. The cottage has an attractive dining area and a light, open plan sitting room which is spacious and furnished with comfortable sofas, a wood burning stove, TV with Sky Q box with a Sky Entertainment package, excluding Netflix,and DVD player, and has beautiful views over the garden and to the Downs beyond. French doors open onto a delightful patio and into the garden. There is a modern fitted kitchen equipped with an electric oven and hob, microwave, and dishwasher. The fridge/freezer, washing machine and tumble dryer are in a separate utility room adjoining the kitchen. A travel cot and high chair can be provided. A telephone available. There is a smart television in the ground floor bedroom (This does not have an aerial connection so can only be used to view via the internet). WiFi broadband internet is available - this is a rural connection and so can be slow at times.
Bramble Cottage has a secluded and sunny garden at the rear of the cottage, which is enclosed and often visited by wildlife (including rabbits pheasants and partridge). There are stunning views across the fields and downs, and from parts of the garden the medieval castle of Carisbrooke can be glimpsed in the distance. An attractive screened and paved seating area with built in barbecue has recently been constructed at the end of the garden. Garden furniture is also provided so that meals can be enjoyed in the sunshine. Two medium sized cars can be parked at the side of the cottage and there is a bus service within a five-minute walk.
