This lovely 17th century stone cottage is situated in the centre of the picturesque village of Corfe Castle amongst the beautiful countryside of the Isle of Purbeck. The famous castle, which was attacked by Oliver Cromwell, stands majestically on a small hill within a 2 minute walk of the cottage and is the focal point of the village. Below the castle there is a pretty square with an exceptional bakers, a sweet shop, two public houses and a National Trust tea shop serving delicious cream teas. The wonderful beaches of the sandy peninsular of Studland are within a 10 minute drive, as are the more lively entertainments of the beach resort of Swanage. This is in a marvellous walking area with panoramic coastal views from the downs. Visitors can stroll directly from the cottage to the downs and follow paths to the coast at Swanage and Studland or towards the pretty coastal villages of Kimmeridge and Lulworth.
Penny Cottage is a lovely traditional Dorset cottage with a thatched roof, Purbeck stone walls, many beams and a wonderful inglenook fireplace. It is one of a small terrace of stone cottages and has been furnished and equipped with great care. It is centrally heated and partially double glazed. The cottage has been skilfully extended to provide a spacious, light and airy, open plan kitchen equipped with attractive fitted units, an electric cooker and gas hob, an integral microwave, dishwasher, washing machine and fridge freezer. There is a particularly pleasant dining area with large windows and a French door which opens into the pretty garden at the rear of the cottage. The sitting room is a charming, spacious room with comfortable sofas and a beautiful inglenook fire place. There is a a small dining table for more intimate meals plus a colour television/DVD player. On the ground floor there is also a modern well equipped bathroom with a bath, overhead shower, w.c. and basin. Stairs lead up from the hallway to a pretty double bedroom This room is furnished in a traditional style with a king size bed, attractive beams and with views of the purbeck hills. There is also a pleasant bunk bedroom for children. (Height above the upper bunk is restricted to two feet). Heating and electricity are included without extra charge.
The cottage has is a pretty enclosed garden at the rear with a barbecue and garden furniture. Within a 2 minute walk there is a regular bus service to Swanage, Wareham and Poole with links to a good train service to London and Weymouth. Visitors may also enjoy taking the steam train from Corfe Castle to Swanage. A special permit is available for free parking in the village car park which is within a 5 minute walk. General stores, bakers, post office, telephone, public house and two good restaurants within a 3 minute walk.
