This lovely stone cottage is beautifully situated in wonderful countryside close to the picturesque village of Corfe Castle in ‘An Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty’. It is approached by a private drive and stands in the grounds of Afflington Manor – a superb manor house mentioned in the Doomsday book. The farmland of the manor house extends to over 600 acres and visitors can walk across the nearby fields and follow footpaths to some of the loveliest villages of the Isle of Purbeck such as Kingston, Worth Matravers and Langton Matravers. The nearby Jurassic Coast with its wonderful coastal path is in an area renowned for its fossils, dramatic cliffs and small coves. Within 10 minutes drive of the cottage there is the small coastal resort of Swanage with its sandy beach and a variety of entertainments including Punch and Judy, swimming, boating and diving. A 15 minute drive takes you to Studland, a beautiful remote sandy peninsula with over 2 miles of sandy beach.
Afflington Manor Cottage is built of Purbeck stone and dates back over 200 years. In the early part of the last century the painter, Augustus John, regularly stayed at the cottage. The cottage has a lovely secluded position and enjoys views over the surrounding countryside. The cottage has recently been completely renovated to provide very attractive accommodation for 5 people. It is centrally heated and has lovely wooden floors with rugs on the ground floor and deep fitted carpets in the bedrooms and on the stairs. On the ground floor there is a modern fitted kitchen equipped with an electric oven and hob, microwave, dishwasher, fridge freezer and washing machine; an attractive sitting room with a pretty window seat, a comfortable sofa and chairs, television/DVD; a delightful centrally heated conservatory with a dining area; a charming ground floor single bedroom. Stairs lead up to two beautiful double bedrooms, with views across the fields, and a bathroom which is very well equipped with a bath, separate built in shower, basin and w.c. All heating and electricity are provided without extra charge. A travel cot and high chair can be provided if required. A folding bed can be added into one of the double bedrooms to enable children to sleep separately. Visitors should be aware that this is a traditional property with low doorways.
The cottage is semi detached and has a delightful sunny enclosed garden with a large lawn and a patio area with garden furniture so that meals can be enjoyed outside. A small gate from the garden opens onto a path which crosses a tiny stream and leads directly into the fields. The surrounding farmland is a mixture of arable land and grazing for cows, sheep and a small number of Alpachas. There are two large ponds nearby which encourage a wide range of birds including herons and the occasional cormorant. Cars can be parked in the private drive just outside of the fenced garden. Public transport, general stores, public house and bakers within ½ mile. Nearby places to visit include the majestic castle of Corfe Castle, the NT manor house of Kingston Lacey and Lulworth Castle. There is a steam railway which links Corfe Castle to Swanage and rowing boats and motor boats can be hired at Wareham for trips along the river.

The Isle of Purbeck is a peninsular of land located in the South of Dorset and is famous for its sandy beaches, beautiful countryside and the Jurassic Coast World Heritage site. The sea surrounds Purbeck on three sides and nowhere is for from the coast. Apart from the small town of Swanage, the Isle of Purbeck is made up of small rural hamlets and traditional villages.
The North side of Purbeck is dominated by a wooded and heathland nature reserve and where it meets the water of Poole Harbour it attracts a great deal of bird life. The East coast of Purbeck is known for the two long sandy beaches at Studland and Swanage but also for the limestone pillars at Old Harry's Rocks. Along the South Coast is the start of the Jurassic Coast which is characterised by impressive coastal formations like Dancing Ledge and Durdle Door but also for quiet coves and peaceful beaches for swimming.
Much of Purbeck has been declared an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and the vast majority of Purbeck remains in the hands of nature. This is ideal for walkers and cyclists who are free to explore large areas of countryside and take in a number of wondrous locations.
The Isle of Purbeck has a number of events which take place throughout the year. To find out more about local events go to our Purbeck Events pages.

Cottage was absolutely delightful, the conservatory and views from it were second to none. Owners were friendly and helpful, it was obvious they really wanted you to enjoy your stay and did everything they could without being intrusive. Even we relaxed at Afflington! Overall Rating: 5 Stars

It was a really happy holiday and the accomodation contributed to that feeling greatly. Overall Rating: 5 Stars

We had a lovely holiday and were very impressed by the cleanliness of the cottage which is in a lovely peaceful location. Our 2.5 year old daughter loved going to visit all the nearby farm animals each evening and was delighted when the owner said she could pick the apples from the tree outside the cottage! The owners were friendly and clearly cared about the standard of the cottage. Overall Rating: 5 Stars

We had a wonderful stay at Afflington. We were greeted by the owner on arrival, who made us very welcome and told us that we were allowed to go anywhere on the farm land. We enjoyed watching the wildlife from the garden and conservatory - deer, birds etc, and meeting Humphrey the alpaca. The steam train can also be seen from the conservatory through the trees. This is a very, very quiet getaway. Overall Rating: 5 Stars

We loved the cottage! The delicious eggs, wine, jam and cookies were a welcome surprise - thank you! Our only comments are that a tumble dryer would be useful and frosted glass on the bathroom window would provide more privacy, but other than that the cottage was perfect. Overall Rating: 5 Stars
Lovely cosy cottage with fabulous large, sunny conservatory with views over garden & field, where deer were seen on a couple of evenings. Resident Alpacas, chickens, turkeys & Guinea Fowl all added to charm. Friendly owner who provided wine, home-produced eggs, tomatoes and jam to welcome us. Highly recommended. Overall Rating: 5 Stars
We really enjoyed our stay at this very comfortable cottage. It is set in a very quiet position and had a secure garden where the children could play safely. Everything we needed was provided and would recommend staying there. Overall Rating: 5 Stars
