Chapman's Pool

Ed 17 May 2018

Chapman's Pool is a remote horseshoe cove to the west of the Dorset village of Worth Matravers.  The shale beach has a lovely collection of rock pools. One of the lesser-known beaches along the south coast of the Isle of Purbeck it was home to a lifeboat station in the 19th century which still stands. No longer in use, it now serves as a fisherman’s hut. There are a few shipwrecks out in the bay that have foundered on the Kimmeridge Ledges that make for some challenging dive sites.

Chapman's Pool Beach on the Isle of Purbeck in Dorset

There are no facilities at Chapman's Pool and it isn’t particularly close to any of the villages on the Isle of Purbeck.  The beach is accessed by a pathway from the nearest lane and parking spaces are extremely limited. However, don’t let any of these facts put you off visiting one of the most pleasant seaside coves on the Isle of Purbeck. There are no dog restrictions, so feel free to bring your furry buddy along. Take a walk up to Emmetts Hill Memorial which overlooks the bay and is set in tranquil gardens with benches and places to sit and relax.

Please read the beach safety notices at Chapman's Pool concerning local sea conditions.
