Champman's Pool PurbeckChapman's Pool is a sheltered cove below Kingston and Worth Matravers in Purbeck. The small cove is backed by dramatic coastal scenery and the isolated cove is excellent for swimming and paddling.

The beach is made up of very fine shingle and sand with patches of rock at the edges. There are rock pools which temporarily trap a rich variety of wildlife after the tide retreats.

There are no facilities or places to get food or drink at Chapman's Pool so you must bring everything with you (and, of course, any rubbish home). The nearest place to buy picnic food is Corfe Castle where there is a good local shop and a bakers.

There are no safety notices at Chapman's Pool and you must take responsibility for your safety and the safety of others while you are there.

Getting To Chapman's Pool

Chapman's Pool is reached best from either Kingston or Worth Matravers. From Kingston you must drive up through the village and take the first left (left of the church). Follow the road till the end where there is a patch of grass where 1 or 2 cars can park (don't block the gates because they are in constant use) or alternative parking is available back in the village. Walk down the main track towards the sea, through a gate with a cattle grid and down to where the track curves left around the hill. Take the second path on the right which will be signposted for Chapman's Pool.

From Worth Matravers you must drive through the village and towards St Alban's Head. The road goes past a farm and after 200meters turns sharply to the left and onto a gravel track. Here there is a car park to leave the car. Re-trace your steps on foot a little way and where the tarmac road restarts turn left past some houses on your left. Go through the gate and down the steep hill toward the hamlet of Hill Bottom. Continue along the tarmac road and through another gate into Hill Bottom and turn left onto a path between two houses. Cross the gate and follow the track for 300 meters at which point turn left onto the path to Chapman's Pool. Follow signs down to the beach.

If you are following the coastal path from St Alban's head to Kingston you will see it sighposted along the way.
