The attractive coastal town of Yarmouth is located on the North West of the Isle of Wight and centres around a small harbour popular with sailors of pleasure craft. The small town has a selection of boutique shops selling local food, fine jewellery, clothes and craft items. There are also a number of good restaurants and public houses which all offer a good selection of seafood.
Yarmouth is an ideal Isle of Wight location for exploring the West of the Isle of Wight and is a short drive or pleasant coastal walk from Alum Bay. A cycle track and footpath run to Freshwater Bay and then on along the Tennyson Downs.

This farmhouse is attractively situated on the edge of the pretty village of Shalfleet towards the West side of the Isle of Wight. The cottage adjoins the grounds of Shalfleet Manor House and has its own private entrance into a quiet lane which leads from the village to a footpath on Newtown Creek. This estuary, which is only a few minutes walk from the farmhouse, is part of a National Nature Reserve and is in an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Yarmouth Pier - The pier at Yarmouth offers great views of the comings and goings into Yarmouth Harbour. Boat traffic is often made up of pleasure crafts and the Isle of Wight ferry and you will surely get a wave from most of the boats as they pass.
Yarmouth Boutique Shops - There are a number of excellent boutique shops in Yarmouth including a deli, a nautical out fitters and a jewellery shop. There are also places to buy local food and gift items. A couple of cafes and an excellent restaurant are also found in Yarmouth.
Visit Yarmouth Castle - This impressive coastal defence was built by King Henry VIII and sits right next to where the ferry arrives in Yarmouth. The castle is owned by English Heritage and is open to the public.
Yarmouth to Freshwater Cycle Path - There is a lovely cycle route from Yarmouth to Freshwater which runs along side the estuary. This flat and wide cycle route is a fast and extremely beautiful way to get between the two seaside towns. To get onto the cycle route you must start to head out of Yarmouth in the direction of Newport along the main road but before leaving the town turn right on a road marked with the cycle path sign post. At the very end of the road you will see the cycle track onto which you turn right. Follow the signs all the way to Freshwater.
The George, Yarmouth - A luxurious restaurant in Yarmouth serving excellent food in beautiful surroundings. The George is considered one of the best restaurants on the Isle of Wight and ideal for treating someone special. Red Lion Public House, Freshwater - The Red Lion is a traditional public house serving great food using local produce and local caught seafood. The Red Lion is in the neigbouring small town of Freshwater but their is a lovely estuary side walk which runs from Yarmouth. To walk simply follow the marked cycle route in the direction of Freshwater till you reach the small road bridge. Turn right, cross the bridge and continue for 200 yards to the pub. New Inn, Shalfleet - A lovely village pub within a 10min drive of Yarmouth along the road to Newport. The New Inn has an excellent menu of local produce and locally caught seafood. A warm and friendly atmosphere with a log fire lit on cooler days makes this a lovely place to stop at as part of a walk in the area. New Inn Public House Website.
