The principle town on the North of the Isle of Wight is Cowes which is a popular yachting centre and the venue for the sailing festival Cowes Week. Gurnard, just to the West of Cowes, is a beautiful coastal area with splendid sea views. Wootton, to the East of Cowes is best known for the Estuary which attracts a rich variety of birds.

North Isle of Wight Towns & Villages

Cowes- The pretty town of Cowes is best known for the sailing culture and the small shops and large choice of cafes and restaurants. Cowes has a long promonade as well as a lovely shingle beach from which many choose to swim. A walk along the beach takes you to Gurnard.

Gurnard- The village of Gurnard is a short walk West along the coast from Cowes and has a sand and shingle beach as well as a small sailing club. The village is a calm and quiet location with an excellent restaurant (www.thelittlegloster.com) and couple of small grocery shops.

East Cowes - East Cowes is reached via a small chain ferry (floating bridge) from West Cowes and is best known as the home of Osborne House.

Wootton - The village of Wootton is on the North West of the Isle of Wight between Cowes and Seaview. There is a station for the Isle of Wight Steam Railway in Wootton and is a good location from which to explore the North and East coast of the Isle of Wight.

Shalfleet - The pretty village of Shalfleet is on the North West coast of the Isle of Wight and is best known for the pretty estuary, the wetlands along the coast and the excellent public house. Shalfleet is within a short drive of Yarmouth which can also be reached via the coastal path.

Ryde - This popular seaside resort is on the North East Coast of the Isle of Wight and within a short walk of on the East coast.
