Freshwater Bay Beach - The beach at Freshwater Bay is a truly beautiful little cove which is enjoyed by swimmers and sunbathers in the summer months. The dramatic cliffs either side make it a lovely place to just sit and enjoy the view. You can take a short walk in either direction from Freshwater Bay from which you get more wonderful sea views.
Freshwater to The Needles Walk - One of the most enjoyable and dramatic short walks on the Isle of Wight is between Freshwater Bay and The Needles. The walk starts at beach at Freshwater Bay and begins by following the road for 100meters in the direction of Alum Bay (West) before turning left onto a track which you follow for another 100meters. Here you turn right through a gate and follow a wide path up the hill. Keep the sea on your left and you will be going in the right direction. After 15 to 20 minutes you reach Tennyson Monument. You continue past the monument for another 40minutes or so till you reach the end of the headland. Here there is a former secret missile testing station which is now open to the public and from where you get an excellent view of The Needles.
Freshwater to Yarmouth Cycle Track - There is a flat and wide cycle track which follows the estuary from Freshwater to Yarmouth. The track starts next to the garden centre on the edge of the town (between the town and Freshwater Bay) and is clearly marked all the way along. You can stop for lunch or refreshments at the Red Lion public house which requires a small detour when you reach the small bridge that crosses the estuary. Turn left and cross the bridge. The pub is about 5 minutes along the road.
Some of the places around Freshwater are mentioned on the Isle of Wight's Hidden Treasures page.
