A wonderful cottage in a fantastic rural setting. The communal garden at the front of the property has toy tractors which was a big hit with the little ones. The cottage itself had everything we needed. I'd highly recommend. - Aug 2015 - Cottage Rating 5 Stars

This delightful stone cottage which dates back to 1761 is built of Isle of Wight chalk and brick. It is situated in lovely countryside on an attractive farm at Merstone. The picturesque village of Godshill is nearby and the sandy beaches of Sandown, Shanklin and Ventnor are within a 15 minute drive. This is a wonderful walking area with footpaths leading along the course of the River Yar and to the nearby picturesque village of Godshill. Visitors are free to stroll across the fields of the farm and around the lovely lake in the grounds of the Manor House. There is an open grassland area near the lakes with open views where barbecues can be enjoyed. The cottage is excellent for cyclists as there is access to a network of cycle paths directly from the farm and arrangements can be make for the storage of bikes.

There is a lovely nature trail on the farm so that visitors can enjoy the wonderful range of wild life – this includes herons, ducks and geese on the lakes; swallows and kestrels often nest in the barns; pheasants, foxes and badgers plus rabbits which abound. A small herd of cows is kept on the farm and there is a delightful area for children with small rare-breed bagot goats that will eat from the hand and free range chickens.. From the cottage there is direct access across the fields to the cycle track which links Sandown to Newport and Cowes. Arrangements can be made for the storage of bikes.

A staircase leads from the sitting room to two additional pretty bedrooms – one double and one twin room plus a bathroom with bath, basin and w.c. Central heating and electricity are provided at no extra cost. Folding bed/wooden cot/high chair available. WiFi internet available.

The cottage has a lovely fenced garden. A path to the side of the cottage leads to a raised lawned area with garden furniture. Three cars can be parked at the rear of the cottage.
