It is situated in the attractive courtyard and has marvellous open views from the rear across the fields to the downs. Stag Cottage is in one of the loveliest parts of the Island lying at the foot of Appuldurcome Down and above the picturesque village of Godshill in ‘An Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty'. Godshill can be reached by taking a pleasant stroll through the beech copse and across the fields. The village has a variety of tea shops and restaurants as well as two public houses.

The sea is within a 15 minute walk and there is easy access to the wonderful coastal path which extends from the village of Niton to The Needles on the western tip of the Isle of Wight. A fire in 1889 resulted in much of it being rebuilt. Redway Manor Granary has been renovated with the greatest care and wherever possible original features have been retained. This delightful stone cottage which dates back to 1761 is built of Isle of Wight chalk and brick. It is situated in lovely countryside on an attractive farm at Merstone. The picturesque village of Godshill is nearby and the sandy beaches of Sandown and Shanklin are within a 15 minute drive. This is a wonderful walking area with footpaths leading along the course of the River Yar and to the nearby picturesque village of Godshill. Visitors are free to stroll across the fields of the farm and around the lovely lake in the grounds of the Manor House. There is an open grassland area near the lakes with open views where barbecues can be enjoyed.

There is a lovely nature trail on the farm so that visitors can enjoy the wonderful range of wild life – this includes herons, ducks and geese on the lakes; swallows and kestrels often nest in the barns; pheasants, foxes and badgers plus rabbits which abound. A small herd of cows is kept on the farm and there is a delightful area for children with small rare-breed bagot goats that will eat from the hand and free range chickens.. From the cottage there is direct access across the fields to the cycle track which links Sandown to Newport and Cowes. Arrangements can be made for the storage of bikes.

In 2005 Hackney Stable Cottage was voted, by the Isle of Wight Society, overall winner of their conservation award for the quality, sensitivity and charm of the renovation. Wherever possible, original features have been retained. It has been furnished to a very high standard and is centrally heated. On the ground floor there is a spacious twin bedroom and a separate bath room with a bath, built in shower, basin and W.C.; a modern kitchen equipped with fitted units, an electric cooker and hob, microwave, dishwasher, washer-dryer and fridge freezer. The cottage has a lovely open plan sitting room with comfortable sofas, television/DVD plus a pleasant dining area. A staircase leads from the sitting room to two additional pretty bedrooms – one double and one twin room plus a bathroom with W.C. Heating/electricity are provided at no extra cost. Folding bed/wooden cot/high chair available. WiFi internet available.

The cottage has a fenced garden. A path to the side of the cottage leads to a raised lawned area with garden furniture. In the nearby farmhouse garden there are some beautiful lakes which visitors can make arrangements to fish. Three cars can be parked at the rear of the cottage. Access to the farm is along a gravel lane. Public house and post office within 5 minutes drive or pleasant 30 minute stroll. Bus service - 15 minutes walk.

Hackney Stable Cottage has ground floor accommodation and is a non smoking cottage. WiFi Internet is provided at a charge of £12.00 at Hackney Stable Cottage.
