This small coastal cottage stands adjacent to the coastal path in the picturesque area of Luccombe on the south east coast of the Isle of Wight. It offers a wonderful peaceful retreat for 2 people with a fenced garden, double bedroom, sitting room, fitted kitchen and separate shower room. The small seaside village of Bonchurch and the larger resort of Shanklin are both within a delightful 20 to 25 minute walk. The foot paths go through some beautiful woodland and offer views of the sea at various points. The cottage overlooks an open field and is a superb spot for watching a variety of wild life including Red Squirrels, badgers and birds.

Fossil Cottage is in an idyllic rural location which is quiet and peaceful in the midst of secluded South Isle of Wight countryside and only two miles from the coast. There are spectacular views of the downs from all around the cottage, with beautiful sunsets. In the fields are dairy cows, a stream, hawthorn hedges and plenty of wildlife. The cottage is excellently situated for walking, cycling and fishing. There is easy access on to the footpaths outside the cottage which join the extensive Stenbury and Worsley trails near Appuldurcombe, or the west wight coastal paths all providing panoramic views. At Nettlecombe Farm there are three well stocked fishing lakes (permits available).
A five minute walk leads to historic Whitwell village. The White Horse pub is very popular for meals and there is an attractive 700-year old church. Close by is Niton with post office, food shops and St Catherine’s Lighthouse. Within ten minutes by car is the pretty Victorian seaside town of Ventnor with its own warmer microclimate offering sandy beaches, sub-tropical botanic gardens and local ale.
This is an original island stone cottage at the centre of three adjoining cottages which are several hundred years old. Restored by National Trust builders, this lovely cottage is tastefully decorated and furnished. You enter into an attractive kitchen with tiled floor, leading on to a pleasant sitting room with a television/DVD and sofa. The kitchen is well-equipped with fitted units, electric oven and hob, microwave, refrigerator with freezer section and washer machine. Meals can be taken in here, and on good days the door opened allowing the sun to stream in.
Upstairs is an attractive double bedroom and separate bathroom with a bath and excellent overhead power shower. A sofa bed, folding bed for a child or cot/high chair available. The cottage is heated with storage heaters and convector heaters, and there is a constant supply of hot water. All heating and electricity free of charge. At the rear of the cottage is a patio with garden furniture. A car may be parked beside the cottages, but it is not suitable for larger style vehicles such as ‘Camper Vans’ and ‘People Carriers’. Please note access to the cottage is over the fields along a gravel farm track.
Fossil Cottage is a non smoking cottage. Fossil Cottage is available for weekly self catering holiday bookings from Sunday to Sunday. The normal arrival time at this holiday cottage is 14:30 and the normal departure time is 10:00.

The village of Whitwell is located on the South East of the Isle of Wight and is just a short drive from the beaches of Ventnor and Bonchurch to the South and Shanklin in the East. Whitwell has a small village pub that serves excellent food. The surrounding countryside has a number of walks and footpaths run to the sea and join with the coastal path.

The South of the Isle of Wight is a wonderful mix of pretty beaches and dramatic coastal landscape. The sand and shingle beach at Ventnor is one of the more popular holiday locations but hidden gems such as Bonchurch and Steephill Cove are really worth a visit too.
The coastal path around the South Coast of the Isle of Wight is a particularly beautiful stretch to explore and passes a number of attractive sites which include Steephill Cove, Orchard Bay and St Catherine's Light House at Niton Undercliff. Some of this area has been prone to erosion so you must stick to the footpath and take heed of diversions.

One small/medium dog welcome downstairs. Visitors are asked to ensure their pets paws are clean if dogs go into the sitting room and that they lie on their own bedding. We also ask owners not to leave dogs on their own in the cottage and not to allow them to foul the garden. Puppies and also dogs with incontinence problems are not permitted without specific agreement. Please ensure that your pets treatment for the prevention of fleas is up to date. Cats accepted by agreement.

Fossil Cottage is part of Berryl Farm Cottages. It is the second cottage in a terrace of four. The building is several centuries old and was restored forty years ago by National Trust builders. It is located on farmland and can be accessed by car on a gravel track that runs through fields to the cottage, or by foot from the local village of Whitwell. This route involves bridleways and a stile to climb over.
