This lovely stone cottage occupies an attractive position in a quiet country lane, on the outskirts of Godshill. It has been converted from the original milking parlour of Lower Yard Farm and the building is thought to date back to the 1700‘s. A small riding stables is within a few minutes walk and most of the surrounding fields are home to horses. The centre of the picturesque village of Godshill, with its pretty thatched cottages, restaurants and tea shops is only 3/4 mile away.

Pretty stone cottage which dates back to the 15th Century and is Grade II listed. It stands in St Lawrence, a small peaceful coastal village on the south coast of the Isle of Wight. The cottage is attractively furnished and well equipped with central heating and a wood burning stove. It is a small, well designed cottage which sleeps 3 in 2 bedrooms - all on one level.

This delightful Grade II listed stone cottage has been sympathetically converted from the former stables of the nearby Apse Manor. Groom Cottage is a large property with thick stone walls, wooden beams and an attractive appearance with four gables. It nestles within an enclosed courtyard approached through a lovely arched entrance. The original building dates back to 1695, and period stone door surrounds and lintels can be seen on its south elevation. Parking available adjacent to the cottage. This lovely 17th century cottage is built of Island chalk and brick and enjoys beautiful views across nearby lakes and open countryside to Ventnor Downs. Parlour Cottage is situated on a lovely farm in beautiful South Wight countryside. It is a marvellous walking area with footpaths that can be followed directly from the cottage in most directions. There are particularly attractive walks along the course of the river Yar; to the picturesque village of Godshill and to the nearby village of Arreton which has a public house, farm shop and cafe for meals. The cottage is excellent for cyclists as there is access to a network of cycle paths directly from the farm and arrangements can be make for the storage of bikes. The sandy beaches of Sandown, Shanklin and Ventnor are all within a 15 minute drive.
This charming 16th century thatched cottage stands in a quiet lane in Godshill - a village renowned for being the prettiest on the Isle of Wight. Bats Wing enjoys a wonderful central location in the village. Within a few minutes walk there is a restaurant, an excellent public house for meals, various tea shops, a chocolate shop, the model village and the beautiful church. Godshill is set amidst beautiful countryside and is a wonderful walking and cycling area, with footpaths and bridleways offering direct access to the nearby downs and following the course of the River Wye. The Stenbury Trail links Godshill with the coast at Ventnor and offers spectacular views. The village is within a 10 minute drive of the small coastal resorts of Shanklin and Ventnor and is within easy distance of the market town of Newport with its medieval castle at Carisbrooke.
The accommodation of Bats Wing Cottage comprises the entire upper floor of the property. It is set above charming tea rooms and a lace shop. An ancient door provides direct access from a pathway at the rear of the cottage to the upper level. Bats Wing has been sensitively furnished to provide very attractive accommodation. There is a lovely double bedroom with a fitted wardrobe and television; a pretty second bedroom with a single bed and a 3ft trundle bed beneath which can be used as a second single bed or locked into place to form a super king double bed; a charming sitting room with a leather sofa and arm chairs, flat screen television with Freeview; a spacious separate dining room where meals can be enjoyed; a fitted kitchen equipped with an electric oven and hob, microwave, refrigerator with ice box plus washer dryer. Access to a freezer can be provided. Central heating, electricity and WiFi internet without extra charge. A travel cot/high chair can be made available.
There is shared use of the garden which stands just above the cottage and can be accessed by a separate entrance from the rear pathway. During the day this may be used by guests of the tearoom. It has garden furniture and views across the village. A car can be parked in a quiet lane within a two minute walk. Regular bus service offers easy access to Shanklin and Newport from where most of the island can be accessed. Train service from Shanklin links with Ryde and hover/FastCat services to the mainland with trains to London, the south west and south east. Please be aware that the pathway leading to Bats Wing Cottage is quite short but fairly steep. There are also a small number of internal stairs in the cottage.
Bats Wing Cottage is a non smoking cottage. WiFi Internet is provided free of charge at Bats Wing Cottage. Bats Wing Cottage is available for weekly self catering holiday bookings from Friday to Friday. The normal arrival time at this holiday cottage is 14:30 and the normal departure time is 10:00. Short break weekend and midweek self catering holidays are available from 11th September 2017 to 26th October 2017, 27th October 2017 to 21st December 2017, 2nd February 2018 to 22nd March 2018 and 26th October 2018 to 20th December 2018.

Walk or Cycle to Shanklin - This walk first follows the Stenbury Trail to Wroxall and then the cycle track to Shanklin. To reach the Stenbury Trail from Godshill head out of town along the main road towards Shanklin before turning right after 200 yards onto the trail. Continue up the trail to the Freemantle Gate (photo of the Freemantle Gate) which you pass thought and follow the path which bears left across the fields towards Appuldurcombe and Wroxall. There is a wide flat cycle way that runs from Wroxall to Shanklin. The track starts below the old railway bridge in the centre of Wroxall. If you are walking there is a footpath leading from alongside the bridge to the start of the track but if you are on a bike you must cross the bridge and follow the cycle path signs. Once you are on the track it is clearly signposted all the way to Shanklin. The track runs along the old railway line and the banks on either side are lined with lush vegetation.
