Wonderful in every respect. Lacked nothing. Cottage rating: 5 Stars

This delightful detached thatched cottage is beautifully situated on the south west coast of the Isle of Wight within a pleasant 15 minute walk of the beach. The centre of the village of Brighstone is less than 4 minutes walk from the cottage. Brighstone is renowned for its pretty thatched cottages, church, tea shop/bistro, public house for meals and a general stores which specialises in local island produce. Appletree Cottage is amidst a wonderful walking and cycling area with the nearby coastal path extending eastwards to St Catherine’s lighthouse and westwards to the Needles. This is a particularly unspoilt area of coastline – much of which is protected by the National Trust. Footpaths also lead to nearby downs which extend from Carisbrooke, with its medieval castle, in the centre of the island to The Needles on its western tip.

This is a picture postcard thatched cottage with walls of Island stone. It is Grade II listed and dates back over 300 years. Many traditional features have been retained including the wonderful exposed beamed ceilings. The cottage has been furnished and equipped with care to provide very attractive and comfortable accommodation furnished in a traditional style. On the ground floor there is a spacious sitting room with three sofas, a large flat screen television/Freeview/DVD and a French door which opens directly into the garden; a charming dining area with an oak table and chairs; a fitted kitchen equipped with an electric cooker and hob, microwave, dishwasher, fridge freezer and washing machine; a splendid tiled shower room with walk in shower, basin and wc; a spacious twin bedroom with a small sitting area. Stairs ascend to two additional bedrooms – a pretty master bedroom with a double bed and windows overlooking the garden; a second charming double bedroom with the optional use of an additional single bed; a bathroom with a bath, basin and wc. A travel cot and high chair can be provided. Central heating and electricity without extra charge. We regret that the wood burning stove cannot be used. Wifi internet available.

Appletree Cottage has a beautiful garden with small rockeries and a large lawn with views across adjoining fields to downs in the distance. Garden furniture is provided so that meals can be enjoyed in the sunshine. A barbecue is also available for use in the larger garden away from the thatched roof. Two cars can be parked outside of the cottage in the quiet close. There is also a private off road parking area just beyond the neighbouring property where one car can be parked in the garage and a further car immediately in front of the garage door. Bicycles and small boats can be stored in the garage.
