The centre of the Isle of Wight has beautiful rural countryside and a great selection of walks and cycle routes. Walks extend out to meet the coast on all sides and it is possible to walk the 'spine' of the Island to Freshwater in the West or Bembridge in the East.
Carisbrooke Castle is one of the historic monuments at the heart of the Isle of Wight which deserves a visit. Newport is also located in the centre of the Isle of Wight and is the principle town on the Isle of Wight. The village of Blackwater is located East of Newport and is within easy reach by road of the beaches on the East and South coast.

This is a wonderful walking area as within 5 minutes walk of the cottage visitors can join the famous Tennyson Trail which follows the downs westerly towards The Needles. The cottage offers easy access to the small bays and coves on the south west side of the Isle of Wight. The larger sandy beaches of Ventnor and Shanklin are within a 20 minute drive.
