Sandown Beach

Ed 16 May 2018

At the eastern end of the Isle of Wight facing out into the English Channel, Sandown is a traditional, sandy English seaside resort. Its miles of golden sands are complemented by Sandown’s very own pleasure pier. Sandown Beach is also popular with surfers, sun worshippers, young families, and those that love a walk along a seaside esplanade.

Sandown Beach on the Isle of Wight

Sandown’s sandy beach has an easy gradient down to the low-tide line, it’s long expanse connects to Shanklin in the south and Yaverland and Culver Cliff to its north. Good old-fashioned seaside cafes, and beach shops line the esplanade, whilst the pier guarantees hours of fun on the coin-operated arcade games. The beach offers a few places from which to hire deckchairs, sun beds and windbreaks for relaxation and sun worship. If fish and chips are a must on your trip to the seaside, you are spoilt for choice in Sandown.

Sandown’s High Street runs parallel to the esplanade for about 0.25 miles and is home to some independent shops and eateries for you to explore. The beach is well-serviced for facilities that include public toilets, first aid point, and disabled access points. Dogs are welcome on the beach with restrictions in certain areas between May and September. There is a small nudist beach towards Culver Down.  Please read the beach safety notices at Sandown Beach concerning local sea conditions.
