Colwell Bay

Ed 15 May 2018

Colwell Bay is a small easily-accessible beach found along the north-western coast of the Isle of Wight. With gently sloping sand and shingle, it’s a relaxing swimming beach that’s also an appealing spot for families. Stunning views across The Solent to Hurst Castle on the mainland await visitors to Colwell Bay. It’s also fun to watch the yachts as they head south towards The Needles.

Colwell Bay on the Isle of Wight

Handy facilities include a traditional seaside café and a restaurant (open during the day time throughout summer) at the beach. There are also some beach shops on both sides of the slipway down to the shore selling everything visitors would need for a trip to the seaside. Deckchair and beach hut hire is available too. Be sure to visit during low-tide as the beach can become very narrow otherwise. There are some dog restrictions in place along sections of the beach. Please check onsite guides.

The beach is close to the town of Yarmouth where you can catch the ferry across to Lymington, The Needles Landmark Attraction, Freshwater Bay and the Coast Path that circumnavigates the island.

Please read the beach safety notices at Colwell Bay concerning local sea conditions.
