One of finest pubs for lunch on the Isle of Wight
The Red Lion is a well kept Isle of Wight secret and offers high quality food which one chooses exclusively from a ever changing specials board. With a wide choice of traditional favourites and delicate fish dishes it draws a following all year round.
The Red Lion exudes tradition and the simple rustic style with open fire offers a warm welcome even in the winter months. Shunning modern additions the Red Lion is a slot machine free zone and even mobile phones have to be turned off at the door.
Expect a it to be a bustling place in the peak season as walkers and cyclists come off the nearby path and cycle track and stop in for lunch. If you choose to book ahead the tables in the window are good to enjoy a view of the church and the comings and goings of village life.
A good range of beers and drinks are available. The vegetarian menu is smallish but it contains some of the best food.
Food served: 12:00 - 14:00 & 18:30 - 21:00
What we like:
- The food (which is excellent)
- The desserts (particularly the varieties of crème brule)
- The owner (who is extremely welcoming)
What we would change:
- The coffee could be stronger for my taste
