This wonderful property occupies a delightful location in the extensive grounds of Yafford Mill, an 18th century restored mill, set amidst the beautiful countryside of the coastal area of south west wight. This is ‘An Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty’. The quiet and unspoilt beaches of Brighstone and Brook are within a 5 minute drive. The main village of Brighstone is set a little inland and is a very picturesque spot with thatched cottages, a public house plus cafe/restaurant, good general stores, post office and NT shop. Much of this beautiful coastal region is protected by the National Trust. It is a wonderful walking area with downland and woodland walks and a coastal path with dramatic and panoramic views. There are a variety of small quiet sandy bays in this western part of the island. Also nearby is the small town of Freshwater and the very pleasant coastal town of Yarmouth which is a popular sailing centre and has a variety of excellent restaurants and small shops.
Yafford Mill Barn has been architecturally designed and skillfully renovated to provide lovely light and spacious accommodation to the highest standards for 5 people with three lovely bedrooms and three modern well equipped Travertine tiled bath/shower rooms. The accommodation is all on one level and has sloping entrances, wide doorways and no problems with steps. There are oak and slate floors throughout, with underfloor heating which can be thermostatically controlled in each room and large double glazed windows. The main living area has a wonderful Scandinavian feel, achieved through the use of vaulted ceilings, the beautiful use of wood panelling on some walls plus an almost complete wall of glass with two sets of French doors opening onto a extensive patio area. There is a stylish wood burning stove, comfortable sofas and chairs, a wide screen television/DVD player and wi fi available throughout the property; a lovely dining area overlooking the garden; a beautiful fitted kitchen area which is exceptionally well equipped with a ceramic hob, built in electric oven and microwave, refrigerator, freezer and washer dryer. The surfaces of the kitchen are at two levels so that visitors can prepare food whether standing or sitting. The bedrooms are all attractively furnished – one double room with an en-suite shower room, basin and w.c.; one lovely twin bedroom, and a delightful single room with French doors opening into the garden. There is a family bathroom with a bath, built in shower, basin and w.c. plus a separate spacious wet room with an open shower area, basin and w.c. A cot/high chair and folding bed can be provided. Heating and electricity without extra charge.
Yafford Mill Barn has its own lovely spacious garden with a patio and lawned area. A pretty stream flows along one side of the garden and is a splendid feature. Visitors may also have use of the larger gardens by arrangement with the owners of Yafford Mill House where there is an idyllic large lake and mill pond which can be accessed along smooth paths. The lake is home to a wonderful variety of birds including ducks, moorhens, geese and the occasional Kingfisher. Herons are frequent visitors and rabbits, pheasants and partridge abound. In the summer butterflies, damselflies, dragonflies, newts and toads are easy to spot. Three cars can be parked in the drive immediately to the rear of the barn. (Due to to the lake and stream children do need to be very closely supervised at the property). Nearby places to visit include the Gardens of Mottisone Manor,The Dinosaur farm museum, Blackgang Adventure Park; the coloured sands of Alum Bay and the medieval castle of Carisbrooke.
