This picturesque Grade II listed thatched cottage dates back to 1676 and is attractively situated at the end of a quiet lane with a lovely ford and footpath leading to the nearby medieval castle of Carisbrooke. Located in the oldest part of Carisbrooke village which is a conservation area lying within ‘An area of Outstanding Natural Beauty’. The castle is only 5 minutes walk away and can be glimpsed from the garden and main bedrooms. This is a wonderful walking area as within 5 minutes walk of the cottage visitors can join the famous Tennyson Trail which follows the downs westerly towards The Needles. A popular Italian restaurant, family public house for meals and a local shop are all within 3 minutes walk. The market town of Newport, with its splendid variety of shops and restaurants is within 20 minutes stroll. The sandy beaches of the seaside towns of Sandown, Shanklin and Ventnor are within a 15 - 20 minute drive.
This pretty cottage, favoured by local artists and featured in postcards and books from English Heritage, has been furnished and equipped to a high standard. The charming thatched porch opens into a sitting room with large comfortable sofas, hi-fi system and wide screen digital television/DVD/video. There is a newly equipped fitted kitchen with oak units and granite tops, electric double oven and hob, combination microwave, dishwasher and fridge freezer plus a dining area overlooking the garden. Also on the ground floor there is a separate dining area, a utility room with a washer dyer and a well equipped shower room with a built in shower, basin and W.C. Stairs lead up to two pretty double bedrooms, one of which has a king size four poster bed, plus a bathroom with a bath, hand shower, overhead shower, basin and W.C. Additional stairs lead up to the second floor where there is an attractive twin bedroom accessed through a single bedroom with digital television/DVD/video; these rooms prove popular as a den for children. A good selection of DVD’s, videos, books, children’s games and stair gates are provided. WiFi internet is available at this cottage. A travel cot and high chair can be provided. The cottage is centrally heated and the electricity and heating are provided at no extra charge.
Virginia Cottage has a pretty and spacious south facing fenced garden enjoying sun virtually all day with garden furniture and a barbecue. One large or two small cars can be parked in the drive at the side of the cottage. Buses to many parts of the Island within 3 minutes walk.
