
Stockbridge Manor is a beautiful manor house dating back to 1560. It is situated in an ‘Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty’ on the outskirts of the rural village of Whitwell. This is a wonderful walking area with footpaths leading directly from the cottage into the beautiful countryside. The village centre with its public house is within 5 minutes walk. The sandy beaches of Shanklin and Ventor are within a 10 minute drive.
This exceptional property occupies the East Wing of Stockbridge Manor and is self contained. The cottage provides a perfect romantic hideaway. It has been furnished in a traditional style with the greatest care and attention to detail using lovely rich materials and some elegant pieces of antique furniture. This has produced a wonderfully extravagant country manor house style. Upstairs there are two beautiful bedrooms which are richly and elaborately furnished, the beds being draped with a marvellous combination of materials. The spacious master bedroom has an elegant antique half tester bed and an en-suite shower room with basin and W.C. The second bedroom has an antique four poster bed and an additional single bed is available. On the ground floor there is a pretty sitting room with a sofa and chairs, colour television/DVD; a pleasant dining area; a modern fitted kitchen equipped with attractive units, a large dresser, electric oven and hob, microwave, dishwasher, refrigerator and washer dryer; a bathroom with a ‘whirlpool’ bath and basin; a separate W.C. with basin. Pay telephone provided.
Heating and electricity are provided at no extra charge. There is a lovely large walled garden at the front of The East Wing with garden furniture and a barbecue. Two cars can be parked beside the cottage. Access to the cottage is along a traditional unmade lane. The Manor House is available separately for holidays. Smoking not permitted. General Orientation - Stockbridge Manor is 10mins walk from the centre of Whitwell which, in turn, is located between Godshill and Ventnor. Ventnor Beach is within easy reach, as is Sandown and Shanklin via Godshill. Public Transport - 2 bus stops,(10mins walk). Busses run to Newport, Ventnor and Alum Bay. Local Walks - Whitwell is surrounded by countryside and walks pass only 2mins away from the cottage. Attractions - Whitwell has a public house which provides home made food and local beers. History - Church of St Mary, of which some parts date back to the 12th Century. |
