Shalfleet Manor Barn is situated within a few minutes walk of the centre of the pretty village of Shalfleet on the west side of the Isle of Wight. The village has a lovely 12th century church, its own village shop and a public house which is extremely good for meals. Also within a few minutes walk from the cottage is Newtown Estuary which is part of a National Nature reserve and is an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It is home to countless wildfowl and rare wading birds. This is a wonderful and peaceful area for walking and bird watching.
Several secluded bays and beaches are within 10 minutes drive. These include Colwell and Totland Bay. Also nearby is the sailing centre of Yarmouth which offers a choice of good restaurants and has a variety of individual shops.
Shalfleet Manor Barn is situated in the old farm courtyard of Shalfleet Manor House with direct access to the adjoining delightful gardens of the Manor house.
Here there is a tennis court which visitors are welcome to use and also an attractive heated swimming pool which can be used each weekday morning and at other times by agreement from mid June – mid September. (The pool may be used in May and late September but at these times the temperature cannot be guaranteed). Use of the pool is shared with visitors to the Farmhouse and Manor Cottage.
The cottage has recently been renovated to provide attractive and comfortable accommodation, which is all on one level, for six people in three bedrooms. The cottage is centrally heated and has been furnished and equipped with great care to a very high standard. There is a delightful spacious open plan sitting room with comfortable sofas, a colour television/DVD player; an attractive dining area; a lovely modern fitted kitchen equipped with an electric cooker and hob, microwave, dishwasher, and fridge freezer. There is a separate utility room with a washing machine and tumble dryer. The cottage has one double bedroom with an en-suite bathroom with a bath, built in shower, and W.C. and two twin bedrooms. There is a separate bathroom with a bath, hand shower and W.C. A high chair and wooden cot can be provided if required. Heating and electricity at no extra charge. There are a small number of steps at the entrance to the cottage.
At the front of the cottage there is a garden with a table and chairs so that meals can be enjoyed in the sunshine. Here visitors can relax and there is space for games to be played. Cars can be parked in the farm courtyard adjoining the garden of Shalfleet Manor Barn. Regular bus service and telephone within a few minutes walk. Nearby places to visit include The Needles, Alum Chine and Osborne House, the island home of Queen Victoria.
