
This lovely stone cottage is attractively situated in a quiet country lane on the edge of the village of Niton, on the south coast of the Isle of Wight . The village centre is only a 4 minute walk away. Niton has a 16th century church, a good public house for meals, general stores, post office, butchers, book shop and florist.
The cottage is in ‘An Area of Outstanding National Beauty’. There are fields at the rear and side of the cottage and glimpses of the downs in the distance from the front. The small cove at Castle Haven is about a 15 minute walk away and the seaside town of Ventnor with its sandy beach and more lively entertainments is within a 15 minute drive along the attractive coastal route through St Lawrence.
Scallop Shell Cottage is in a wonderful walking area with footpaths leading directly from the cottage to St Catherine’s Down. There are spectacular coastal views from the nearby St. Catherine’s Hill above Blackgang and from the coastal path which is particularly attractive as it heads westerly from Niton towards the Needles. An extensive trail following the course of the River Yar starts in Niton and leads through Whitwell and the picturesque village of Godshill to Bembridge on the east coast of the Island.
Scallop Shell Cottage is built of Isle of Wight stone and parts date back to 1750. The cottage adjoins a similar property and retains many of its original features. The combination of tradition and modern conveniences fused with stylish decor offers spacious high quality luxurious living for 6 people. Rich materials and fabrics have been used with a skilful combination of spring colours to provide a very pretty country cottage style to the rooms. The ground floor: the front door opens into a very spacious hallway where you can hang coats, hats and store away all shoes, wellies, and unnecessary clutter.
The dining room seats 6 – 8 with French doors opening into the rear garden. The sitting room is light, bright and spacious. The wood burning stove is perfect for late night relaxation. With flat screen TV, DVD player and IPod docking station. A door leads through to a large open plan kitchen with a pleasant breakfast area by a window and a second set of French doors opening into the rear garden. The kitchen has fitted units and is equipped with a Rayburn cooker, electric hob, combination microwave with convection oven, dishwasher, fridge freezer, washer dryer and a wide range of gadgets for all cooks.
Fairly steep stairs lead up to three bedrooms - one twin room and two pretty double bedrooms with rural views. There is a modern bathroom with a bath and a separate built in shower, basin and W.C. A travel cot, high chair and a variety of toys and accessories for babies/young children can be provided if required such as stair gates, baby monitor, steriliser etc. The cottage is centrally heated and this heating and electricity is provided at no extra charge as well as a welcome basket of logs.
Scallop Shell has a pleasant secluded fenced garden at the rear. A gateway at the side of the cottage links this with the pretty front garden which has a sunny patio with garden furniture, umbrella and barbecue. There is also an area of lawn where visitors can relax. A fenced pond is an additional attractive feature of the front garden. A trampoline and various outdoor toys are available for families with young children. Private parking for 2 cars. Shop, telephone, public house and bus service within 5 minutes walk.
