This lovely thatched cottage dates back to 1701. It is full of character with exposed beams, inglenook fireplaces. It stands in ‘An Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty’ with views of Brighstone Downs. The pretty village of Brighstone village with its tea rooms, public house and village shops is within a 15 minute stroll. The cottage is only a mile from the coast and here there are several quiet sandy coves. This is a wonderful walking area with footpaths leading from the cottage onto the downs and along the coast.
Old Rock Cottage is a beautiful detached property which has been renovated to a high standard. There is an attractive mixture of natural stone floors and cream carpets which give a feeling of comfort and space. Upstairs there are two lovely bedrooms - one double room and one twin room. On the ground floor there is an attractive single bedroom; a well equipped kitchen with fitted units, real wood work tops, an electric oven and hob, microwave, refrigerator, freezer, washing machine and small dishwasher; a bathroom with bath, overhead shower, W.C. and basin. There is also a pretty sitting room with an inglenook fireplace, a sofa, piano and a wonderful old grandfather clock. A second sitting area has an attractive fireplace, sofas and a colour television with sky channels, DVD. There is a dining area and spacious conservatory style room with lovely views. French doors lead outside to an area of decking. Garden furniture is provided. To the side of the cottage is a secluded, heated swimming pool available from mid June to the end of September. At other times the availability of the pool is dependent on the weather. The cottage is centrally heated. Heating and electricity are provided at no additional charge. ( It is not possible to have an open fire). A folding bed, cot and high chair can be provided. Telephone available.
Old Rock Cottage has a large secluded garden of ¾ acre with lawns and shrubberies. Steps lead down from the pool area to the lawn and here games can be played. Children need to be closely supervised due to the swimming pool; a drop from the balcony into the lower garden; and a stream that runs along the western boundary of the property. There is parking space for 3 cars in the drive at the side of the cottage. Smoking not permitted.

Public Transport - Local bus 10mins walk. Busses go to Newport. Alternatively busses run along the coast road to either Ventnor or Freshwater. Local Shop - Grocery shops are to be found in Brighstone. They supply essentials as well as fresh fruit & vegetables. The national papers are also just a short walk from the cottage. Local Amenities - At least 2 local public houses serve food and are within a 10minute walk. Local Walks - The cottage is located in a fantastic walking area. The main choices are either the coastal path, which can be joined close to the cottage, or the Tennyson Downs which have a connective path in the village. Activities - The cottage is located near to the beach and the coast line is attractive for walking or just relaxing on. These west coast beaches attract water sport enthusiasts and surfing is a popular past time here. Brighstone - The village of Brighstone (map below) is historic and pretty. There are a wealth of local facilities as well as a National Trust shop. The Pubs and Restaurants offer food and entertainment all year around. |
