The Old Cottage is a wonderful 18th Century, Grade 2* listed property. It is beautifully situated overlooking the sea, in ‘ An Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty’, on the south coast of Island. A quiet cove, where visitors can paddle and swim, is within a 15 minute walk of the cottage. St Lawrence is renowned for its mild climate and in the nearby Botanical Garden many rare and tropical trees and plants are grown. The much more lively entertainments of the seaside resort of Ventnor are within an easy 5 minute drive. Here there are a variety of shops and restaurants as well as a sandy beach.
This charming cottage is built of Island Stone and there are beautiful views across the garden to the sea. The cottage is approached along a quiet drive where there are just two adjoining properties and visitors have the opportunity to relax in beautiful peaceful surroundings with wonderful views. There are two acres of lovely gardens with large lawns, old Georgian vine terracing and shrubberies - meals can be enjoyed in the sunshine whilst watching the sailing boats and liners pass by. The cottage has been renovated and equipped to a high standard. Care has been taken to retain some of the lovely original features of the cottage such as carved stone work and rounded doorways; downstairs some of the wooden floors have been exposed. Upstairs the cottage has been re-carpeted and new tiled flooring has been installed in the kitchen and bathrooms. The cottage has three attractive bedrooms – two twin rooms (one with sea glimpses) and a lovely spacious double room with sea views and a new en-suite bathroom equipped with a bath, built in shower, W.C and basin. Also upstairs is a separate modern bathroom with a bath, basin and W.C.
On the ground floor there is a newly equipped fitted kitchen with electric cooker and hob, fridge/freezer, microwave, washer/dryer and dishwasher. A cloakroom with an additional W.C. and basin; a lovely dining room and a spacious sitting room with comfortable sofas, colour television and DVD player. A delightful Victorian style conservatory offers a good place to enjoy more alfresco meals. French doors open from here into the garden. The cottage is centrally heated. There are nearby historic sites to be enjoyed such as Carisbrooke Castle and Osborne House - the Island home of Queen Victoria; entertainments for children at the seaside resorts plus Blackgang Adventure Park, Robin Hill, Amazon Adventure; sailing and boating activities; the steam railway; fishing lakes at Whitwell; golf courses at Freshwater, Sandown and Cowes; good restaurants with AA rossetts at Ventnor, Bonchurch, Yarmouth and Seaview.

Public Transport - Local bus 7mins walk. Busses go to Ryde (via Ventnor) or Newport. Local Shop - Grocery shops are best reached by bus or car and located in Ventnor town. Local Amenities - Local public house serving food is within a 15minute walk or take the coastal path to Ventnor for a wider choice. Local Walks - The cottage is located in a fantastic walking area and you can choose between short walks into Ventnor or longer treks along the coastal path. Inland you are able to walk the Downs and see spectacular views and wild life. Activities - The cottage is located near to the beach at Ventnor as well as quite bays at St Lawrence. All are within walking distance via the coastal path. The famous botanical gardens are a delight and only a short walk to the East. |
