Marylands is a detached stone walled cottage situated in the peaceful rural village of Shorwell, only 3 miles from the south coast of the Isle of Wight. The village contains a number of delightful old thatched cottages and has a lovely church that dates back to the reign of Edward III. There is a very pleasant public house in the centre of the village which has a pretty garden with a duck pond.
The nearby coastline is renowned for its fossils, and the sandy coves of Compton Bay and Freshwater Bay are within a 10 minute drive. The larger sandy beach of Ventnor is a 20 minute drive away. Footpaths can be followed from close to the cottage to join the Worsley Trail which links the downs above Shanklin to the village of Brighstone. The Worsley Trail joins the famous Tennyson trail that crosses the Island, from the market town of Newport, with its famous medieval castle at Carisbrook, to The Needles on the west coast. There are spectacular views across the Island towards the sea from these downs. Blackgang Adventure Park, The Fossil Museum and Carisbrook Castle are all within a short drive.
Marylands dates back, in the older part of the cottage, to the 1800’s. It is comfortably furnished in a traditional style and provides comfortable accommodation for three people in two bedrooms - one twin bedroom and one single room. (Three steps lead down from the landing to the twin room). Cot/high chair available. There is a separate bathroom with a bath, shower cubicle and W.C. On the ground floor there is a pretty sitting room with an attractive multi fuel wood burning stove which visitors can use to have a log fire in colder weather. (Colour television/DVD and a telephone). A patio door opens from the sitting room into a secluded sunroom where meals can be enjoyed and visitors can relax. The fitted kitchen is equipped with an electric cooker and hob, microwave, and fridge freezer. A washing machine is also provided. There is a separate cloakroom with a W.C. on the ground floor. The cottage is heated with a combination of night storage heaters and convector heaters. Heating and electricity are free of charge.
Marylands has a spacious, enclosed garden with views from the rear across the fields. The garden is ideal for playing games or peacefully relaxing in the sunshine. A car can be parked in the drive at the front of the cottage. Public transport, small village shop and public house within half a mile. Smoking not permitted.
