This is a picturesque thatched cottage in the peaceful village of Newbridge, at the heart of rural West Wight. It is situated in a country lane leading to a farm track and there is little passing traffic. Local footpaths lead to Shalfleet Creek and to the Tennyson Trail, from which there are spectacular views across the Solent and the South Coast. Beaches at Brook and Compton Bay, famed for their fossils are within a 5 minute drive. Also within a short drive are the Yar Estuary and the nature reserve at Newtown, both havens for sea birds, water fowl and rare wading birds.
Dating from the early years of the nineteenth century, this lovely stone built cottage has been carefully renovated to provide attractive and comfortable accommodation. It has been furnished and decorated with care in a traditional style. The cottage is well heated with a combination of storage heaters and convectors. It has a modern fitted kitchen equipped with an electric cooker, microwave, fridge freezer, washing machine and tumble dryer. There is a separate dining area. The bathroom is on the ground floor and has both a bath and an electric shower. Visitors can relax in the pretty sitting room, which has a comfortable sofa and chairs, a colour television, DVD player and video recorder. A door from the sitting room opens to reveal the cottage stairs which lead directly up into the double bedroom. Access to the twin room is via the double room. Travel cot and high chair available. Heating/electricity free of charge.
Laurel is one of a pair of cottages and the owner of Laurel Cottage uses the adjoining cottage as an occasional retreat. Laurel Cottage has a lovely large fenced garden. Visitors can peacefully relax in the sunshine and games can be played. Garden furniture is provided. Parking space for one car at the side of cottage. There are public houses in the nearby villages of Calbourne and Shalfleet plus a variety of restaurants in Yarmouth and Freshwater. Village shop & telephone – 5 minutes walk. Rural bus service – 2 minutes walk. Smoking not permitted.
