Keats Wing is situated in wonderful countryside in an ‘Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty’, adjoining Tennyson Down. A five minute walk leads directly from the property on to this famous down where Tennyson composed poetry. Footpaths extend from here to The Needles, and join the coastal path to Freshwater Bay and to the beaches of Totland, Colwell and Alum Bay. The sea and a public house for meals are only ¾ mile away. The village of Totland is a mile away and within two miles is Freshwater - a small town with a variety of shops, public houses, and a leisure club.
Keats forms the upper floor wing of Alum Bay House, a substantial property, parts of which date back to the 1600’s. Keats enjoys spectacular coastal views from most of the main rooms and from its lovely large terrace. It has been furnished and equipped to a high standard in an attractive country house style with a variety of paintings, lovely rugs over lightly coloured fitted carpets and traditional furniture. There are three charming bedrooms - one double room with coastal views; a double room with views of the downs and an en-suite shower room; a pretty twin room with beds which can be linked to form a third double room. There is a lovely open plan sitting room with beautiful coastal views and comfortable sofas, colour television/DVD, plus a small dining area. French doors open from the sitting room on to the spacious terrace. Here there is a table and chairs so that meals can be enjoyed in the sunshine whilst enjoying the amazing open coastal and downland views. There is an attractive fitted kitchen, with granite work tops, equipped with an electric cooker and hob, microwave, refrigerator with freezer section and washing machine; a family bathroom with a bath, basin and W.C. Storage heaters, with convectors combined, keep the property warm. A high chair can be provided.
Visitors have shared use of a large former ‘croquet lawn’ at the rear of the house where garden furniture and a barbecue are provided. There are panoramic views from this garden across the surrounding fields to the downs and across the sea to the Hampshire coastline. Two cars can be parked beside the property. Regular bus service - 5 minutes walk.
