This is a wonderful retreat standing amidst a large garden, adjacent to woodland and the wonderful estate of Osborne House – the Island residence of Queen Victoria. A century ago the cottage was part of the Osborne Estate and was built by Queen Victoria for the royal children in a style to conjure up the atmosphere of India. From the cottage quiet lanes and footpaths can be followed to the sea which is only ¾ of a mile away and visitors can walk into Cowes. The sandy beaches of Ryde and Seaview are within a 15 minute drive.
The Indian summer house provides a wonderful peaceful and romantic escape. Windows extend for almost the entire length of the cottage which has been furnished in a way to accentuate the atmosphere of the Indian Raj with the style of the furniture, rich silk curtains, elaborate materials and attractive cream carpets adorned with Indian rugs. There is a lovely romantic bedroom with an elaborate double bed and silk drapes. The sitting room is a particularly spacious room with an extensive open aspect, furnished with a sofa and chairs, lamps and silk drapes plus a colour television/DVD player. There is also a pleasant dining area in this room. A second delightful place for dining is in the conservatory style area which overlooks a secluded courtyard with garden furniture. The cottage has a modern galley style kitchen equipped with an electric cooker and hob, microwave, refrigerator with freezer section, dishwasher and washing machine. There is also a modern bathroom with a bath, overhead shower, basin and W.C. A second bedroom with a full size bunk bed is an attractively furnished, very compact room, only suitable for children. A cot/high chair can also be provided. The cottage is centrally heated. Heating and electricity at no extra charge.
The cottage is situated in a delightful secluded garden There is a beautiful covered terrace surrounding the cottage. Garden furniture is provided. A car can be parked beside the cottage. A good restaurant and bar, in the Albert Cottage Hotel, is within a 2 minute walk. Public house, small shop and regular bus service within 10 minutes walk.
