Hadfield Cottage is situated in the picturesque coastal village of Bonchurch and is less than 3 minutes walk from the sea. Bonchurch has an air of tranquillity with its lovely village pond, traditional style cottages and 11th century church. Restaurants and a public house are within easy walking distance. There is also a pleasant coastal walk to the nearby seaside resort of Ventnor.
Hadfield Cottage has been converted from the original coach house of Winterbourne House where Charles Dickens wrote part of David Copperfield. The drive to the house leads from a quiet lane with a footpath that descends past the ancient church to the sea. Hadfield Cottage is built of Island stone and adjoins Winterbourne House which takes a small number of bed and breakfast guests. The original coach house has been attractively extended and now provides spacious and comfortable accommodation for 8 people in 4 bedrooms. It is furnished in a traditional style and is centrally heated. Upstairs there is a double bedroom plus a bedroom with bunk beds.
On the ground floor three steps lead up to a twin bedroom, and an additional double bedroom. The latter has attractive french doors that open on to a patio at the front of the cottage. All the bedrooms have fitted wardrobes. A cot/high chair and folding bed can also be provided. There is a bathroom upstairs and a shower room with an additional W.C on the ground floor. The large sitting room has comfortable sofas, a colour television/DVD player and a pleasant dining area. French doors open on to the sunny rear patio. The cottage has a modern split level fitted kitchen with an electric oven and hob, microwave, dishwasher, fridge freezer and a lovely breakfast area by the window. A washing machine/tumble dryer are provided. Heating and electricity free of charge.
There is an attractive spacious walled courtyard at the front of the cottage with garden furniture and the gate can be closed. There is a smaller courtyard at the rear of the cottage with drying facilities. Private space for parking two cars just outside the walled courtyard at the front of the cottage. Telephone, public house and restaurant 5 minutes walk. Public transport 10 minutes walk.
Mr. & Mrs T -10/09 - "This cottage was just as good as described in the brochure. Its position, so near to the coast was idyllic for walks any time of the day. We were blessed with wonderful weather too. We were sorry to learn that the P.O. shop is closing. The organic box was good too."
