Glass House, Cowes, Isle of Wight

This wonderful detached property stands in a superb position beside the sea, close to the centre of Cowes. It enjoys panoramic sea views from almost every room. The glass walls, balconies and large open terraces of the house enable visitors to relax, enjoy meals and awake to the sight of the sea. A large number of yachts sail in this part of the Solent and are lovely to watch as are the ocean liners which pass by in the distance looking particularly wonderful when illuminated at night. The Glass House is literally a stones throw from the sea and the centre of the small town of Cowes is within a 5 minute walk. Cowes is a small coastal town with an attractive centre of narrow streets, boutique style shops and restaurants. The town is renowned for holding the famous ‘Cowes Week’ sailing event during the first week of August and the house is a few minutes walk from the Yacht Squadron, the centre of activities during this time.

The Glass House is a superb property which has been architecturally designed to take full advantage of its wonderful position overlooking the sea. It has been built and equipped to the highest standards in an impressive modern style and has a wonderful feeling of light and space. The house has four beautiful bedrooms for eight guests – 2 spacious double bedrooms, one smaller double and a twin room. The front door opens into a lovely tiled hallway with a dramatic glass style staircase ascending through the centre of the property to the 3 floors above. The main living area of the house is open plan and occupies the entire first floor – here the design of the house can perhaps be most appreciated. The wonderful sitting area has glass walls on three sides offering breathtaking sea views. On one side of the room these doors fold back to give open access to the balcony and a wonderful large terrace. Here alfresco dining can be enjoyed in the sunshine or on warm evenings with the lights of the boats and of the mainland in the distance. An external spiral staircase descends from this balcony into the front garden.

The sitting room is furnished with beautiful large sofas, and chairs. There is a wonderfully well equipped fitted kitchen with two ovens and a large ceramic hob, a built in microwave and coffee maker, an AEG washer/dryer and dishwasher plus a large American style refrigerator and freezer. There is a central unit with a breakfast bar plus an attractive dining area.

On the third floor there are three stunning bedrooms. The master bedroom is particularly spacious and has panoramic sea views plus a dressing room and an excellently equipped ensuite bathroom with a bath and separate built in shower, basin and W.C. An interesting feature of this bathroom is the flat screen television fitted into the wall at the end of the bath. The two other bedrooms on this floor, a double and twin room, are attractively furnished and also have sea views. They have shared use of a shower room with W.C. and basin which can be directly accessed from both bedrooms.

On the ground floor of the property there is a second sitting room and additional bedroom, both of which have sea views and French doors opening into the enclosed front garden. The sitting room has comfortable sofas and chairs, plus a large wall mounted flat screen television with DVD/Sky. The splendid double bedroom here has its own dressing room and well equipped bathroom with a bath, hand shower, basin and w.c. A second entrance to this bathroom offers access from the hallway.

The Glass House has a magnificent roof top terrace with sun loungers and chairs so that visitors can relax in the sunshine and take full advantage of the panoramic views. The house has very effective and energy efficient central heating, plentiful supplies of hot water and high quality double glazing. WiFi is available throughout the house with special docking stations available in most rooms. There is a state of the art central sound system which enables music to be played throughout the house and this can be adjusted in each room to suit individual tastes. All heating and electricity without extra charge. A travel cot and high chair are available. A folding bed can be provided for a child to sleep separately.

Two/three cars can parked in the gated drive at the rear of the property. A walled garden, laid to lawn extends along the front and side of the property. Good bus service within 5 minutes walk and access to the hydrofoil which links the Isle of Wight with the mainland port of Southampton within 10 – 15 minutes walk. Public houses, restaurants and shops within 5 minutes walk. A two minute ride on the river boat for cars and passengers which crosses the River Medina gives easy access to the east coast of the Island and the seaside resorts and sandy beaches of Ryde, Seaview and Bembridge. The small coves and downland coastal walks on the west side of the Island are only a short drive away. Of the nearby places to visit perhaps the closest and most impressive is Osborne House, the Island home of Queen Victoria.
