
This lovely Grade II listed cottage has been converted from the stables of the nearby Apse Manor House. It is one of a pair of cottages divided by an impressive central arch leading to an inner courtyard with pretty gardens and four additional cottages. Dairymaid cottage is very pleasantly situated in a quiet hamlet in attractive countryside. There are pleasant walks directly from the cottage to nearby woodland and foot paths can be joined which extend over the downs to Ventnor with spectacular coastal views. The cottage is only 1.5 miles from the centre of Shanklin with its pretty old town centre, shops and restaurants. Shanklin in renowned for its lovely beach, with gently sloping sand, which is ideal for paddling and swimming. The other seaside towns of Sandown and Ventnor are within a 10 minute drive and within a 5 minute drive there is the picturesque village of Godshill with its thatched cottages and tea shops.
Dairymaid cottage is built of Island Stone. The original building dates back to 1695 and the cottage has the substantial thick walls of the time. It has been furnished and equipped with care in a traditional style to provide very attractive and comfortable accommodation for 4 people in 2 bedrooms. The cottage has a particularly delightful and spacious living room with an impressive open fire and French doors opening into the secluded rear garden. The room is furnished with a leather sofa, and chairs, large colour television and DVD player. There is also a pleasant dining area; a separate large fitted kitchen with antique oak effect units, a lovely hard wood worktop, a Belfast sink, a range style cooker with an electric double oven and gas hob, microwave, refrigerator with freezer section, dishwasher and washing machine. A tumble dryer is also provided. There are two pretty bedrooms – one double and one twin room and a newly equipped shower room with a W.C. basin and large power shower with constant hot water. The cottage is centrally heated and this heating and electricity are provided at no extra cost. The accommodation is all on one level apart from one step in the sitting room. A cot and high chair can be provided if required.
The cottage has a pretty walled garden at the rear with a patio area and lawn plus a gate opening into the inner courtyard. There is garden furniture, an umbrella and a barbecue so that meals can be enjoyed outside. There is also an additional attractive area of garden at the front of the cottage and parking for two cars. Regular bus service within ½ mile. Post office, general stores and telephone 1 mile. Smoking not permitted.

Public Transport - Local bus 5mins walk. Busses go to Shanklin and Sandown to the East (right) and Newport via Godshill to the West (left).. Local Shop - Grocery shops are best reached by bus or car and located in Shanklin and Sandown. Local Amenities - Local public house serving food and sunday lunches as well as library and non food shops. Local Walks - The cottage is located in a fantastic walking area and you can choose between short walks in the local woodland or longer walks along the Coastal Path via Shanklin. Local Busses make the whole Island within easy reach for walking. Activities - The cottage is located near to the sandy beaches of Sandown and Shanklin. They are easy to reach by bus or on foot for the more energetic. Eating and Drinking - Public houses and restaurants cluster around the beach at Shanklin. For taking tea or a drink in the sun Godshill offers a choice of pubs and tea rooms. |
