This pretty thatched cottage stands close to the centre of the small rural village of Whitwell, only two miles from the south coast. Here there are the quiet coves of St Lawrence and within 10 minutes drive is the small seaside resort of Ventnor. Ventnor and St Lawrence are renowned for their mild climate and beautiful botanical gardens. The larger sandy beaches of Shanklin and Sandown are within a 15 minute drive. Whitwell stands at the centre of a wonderful walking area with footpaths leading across the downs and joining the Stenbury and Worsley trails. Paths also follow the river Yar to its source in the coastal village of Niton.
Barn End is a listed building dating back to the 17th century. It is one of two adjoining cottages with thick stone walls. It has been furnished and equipped in a traditional style with much attention to detail. Where possible original features have been retained and there are attractive beams throughout much of the cottage. On the ground floor there is pretty sitting room with comfortable sofas and a television/DVD player. A door leads through to a country style kitchen with fitted units, an electric cooker and hob, microwave, refrigerator, freezer and dishwasher. A washing machine is also provided. A further door opens into the bathroom with a bath, overhead shower, basin and W.C. Open tread staircase leads up to two lovely double bedrooms, one very dramatic room with a large four poster bed and a spacious second double bedroom with a pretty Victorian style bed. A folding bed is available for a child. The cottage is warmed with storage heaters and an electric wood burning stove. Heating & electricity are provided without extra charge. Telephone available.
The cottage has a pretty garden at the rear overlooking meadows. There is garden furniture and a parasol so that meals can be enjoyed in the sunshine. (Visitors with young children should be aware that there is a small pond and stream in the garden and also an unfenced stream at the far end of the garden). Two cars can be parked immediately adjacent to the cottage. Bus service and public house which is good for meals within 3 minutes walk. Friday to Friday bookings.
