This delightful cottage is very attractively situated in a peaceful rural hamlet in beautiful countryside. The cottage is in a good walking area with nearby footpaths leading to attractive woodland and more extensive trails to the downs above Ventnor from where there are panoramic coastal views. The cottage is only 1.5 miles from the lovely sandy beach of Shanklin on the east side of the Island. Shanklin has a pretty old town with thatched cottages and tea shops. It also has a variety of entertainments, shops and restaurants. The neighbouring seaside towns of Sandown and Ventnor are within an easy 10 minute drive.
Apse Manor Forge Cottage is one of two cottages which surround a beautiful courtyard with a lily pond to one side. The courtyard has a French character with delightful olive trees in pots and even an ancient wine press. During the last year over 60 different varieties of birds have been seen from the garden and courtyard. Red squirrels are also occasional visitors. The cottages have recently been converted from some lovely farm buildings and have been rebuilt and renovated with great care, to the highest standards. Apse Manor Forge Cottage has been furnished and equipped with great sensitivity and provides charming and comfortable accommodation for 4 people. The cottage is double glazed and is centrally heated. All heating and electricity at no extra charge. The glazed front door opens into a delightfully light and spacious open plan sitting room with beams, a corner leather sofa, colour television and DVD player. There is a pleasant dining area where meals can be enjoyed. The kitchen has been cleverly hidden behind doors which open back to reveal a fitted kitchen with a stainless steel sink, refrigerator; gas hob and a microwave oven with a double grill. (A conventional oven is not provided). A washing machine, tumble dryer and freezer are available in an adjoining utility room. There is a delightful newly equipped shower room with a built in shower, W.C. and basin. The cottage has two, well furnished pretty bedrooms – one twin room and a spacious double bedroom with a door which opens into a small walled patio. This faces south west and enjoys sunshine for much of the day. Garden furniture, an umbrella and a barbecue are provided. Visitors can also follow the path at the side of the cottage which leads up to extensive gardens with large areas of lawns and shrubs, including wonderful displays of lavender and an area where vegetables are grown. There is even a ‘boule pitch’. These gardens extend to 5 acres and use of these is shared with the cottage owners - keen gardeners who occupy the other cottage in the courtyard.
Two cars can be parked at the front of the cottage. Special arrangements can also be made to use one of the garages adjoining the cottage. Locked space is available for visitors wishing to bring bikes. The pond at the side of the courtyard is unfenced and children therefore need to be very closely supervised and the greatest care taken. Public Transport - Local bus 5mins walk. Busses go to Shanklin and Sandown to the East (right) and Newport via Godshill to the West (left).. Local Shop - Grocery shops are best reached by bus or car and located in Shanklin and Sandown. Local Amenities - Local public house serving food and sunday lunches as well as library and non food shops. Local Walks - The cottage is located in a fantastic walking area and you can choose between short walks in the local woodland or longer walks along the Coastal Path via Shanklin. Local Busses make the whole Island within easy reach for walking. Activities - The cottage is located near to the sandy beaches of Sandown and Shanklin. They are easy to reach by bus or on foot for the more energetic. Eating and Drinking - Public houses and restaurants cluster around the beach at Shanklin. For taking tea or a drink in the sun Godshill offers a choice of pubs and tea rooms. |
